Diane DIMITRI -- Homicide - Welland (August 9th, 2003)
« on: September 24, 2007, 07:55:28 AM »
Information:

The lifeless body of 32-year-old Diane Christina DIMITRI was found in a ditch on the southwest side of the intersection at Darby Road and Grassybrook Road in Welland near the Niagara Falls city limit on August 9th, 2003. Diane DIMITRI was murdered and detectives from the Major Crime Unit of the Niagara Regional Police Service require the public?s assistance in order to bring her killer(s) to justice.

At the time of her body?s discovery Diane was wearing a black form fitted sleeveless V-neck dress, with a long sleeved black/glittery waist length evening jacket. She was also wearing a leather necklace with a silver clasp and a bracelet made up of woven metal that was tarnished. Diane DIMITRI was approximately 5?3" to 5?4" in height and weighed approximately 100 lbs. She had slightly curly, shoulder length brown hair and brown eyes. Diane often wore her hair down and away from her face.

Diane was known in her social circles as having an excellent sense of style and often dressed well. At the time her body was discovered it appeared that she had been dressed for an evening out, wearing a dress and a dinner jacket.

Diane was born and lived in Quebec and had only moved to the Niagara Region in early 2001 in order to be closer to family members. She was part of a close-knit family structure in the Niagara Falls area. Diane DIMITRI?s family is anxious along with investigators to have Diane?s killer(s) brought to justice.

Investigators believe that the location where Diane?s body was found was not the location where she was murdered. Investigators have not yet identified the location where Diane was murdered.

Major Crime Detective Keri Harrison the lead investigator in the case says, "The most important thing is that Diane was a mother, a daughter and a friend to many. I know that this case can be solved. Someone out there knows something that will help bring this case to a close, not only for the police and the public but also for her family and friends."

Anyone with information regarding this homicide is asked to call the Major Crime Unit at 905 688 4111 ext. 4200 or CrimeStoppers at 1800 222 TIPS.

Detective Sergeant Harrison encourages any member of the media requesting additional information to contact her at the Major Crime office of the Niagara Regional Police Service 905 688 4111 ext. 4302.

Michael Durant, of Niagara Falls, has already been charged in the death of two of the five women. He was arrested in January 2006 and charged with the murder of Cassey Joyce Cichocki, 22, an exotic dancer and prostitute.Durant was then charged in June with first-degree murder in the death of 28-year-old prostitute Diane Christina Dimitri.

Quick Arrest

A suspect has been charged in a murder case that has people in Niagara Region worried again about a possible serial killer.

Fifty-five year-old Wayne Ryczak was arrested at his St Catharines trailer park and is charged with first degree murder.

Stephanie Beck's body was found Sunday on a country road in Vineland. Police won't say how the 29-year-old died or if she was a prostitute. Over the past 12 years, the bodies of six sex trade workers have been dumped around the Niagara Region.

LINCOLN -- Niagara Regional Police (NRP) continue to investigate the home of the 55-year-old St. Catharines man accused of killing a St. Catharines woman earlier this week.

As of Wednesday, police had completed their investigation of the Vineland site where the body of 29-year-old Stephine Beck was found, but continued to work at the trailer home where the accused lived.

"They've completed the investigation at the location at 7th Avenue," says Const. Sal Basilone, media relations officer with the NRP, adding the road re-opened to traffic as of Wednesday.

Basilone said as of Wednesday officers were still on scene at the home of the accused, 55-year-old Wayne William Ryczak, who resided at Johnson's Motor Coach and Trailer Park on St. Paul Street West in St. Catharines. Police had seized a vehicle belonging to the accused and had cordoned off a small area surrounding his home. Police were to conduct forensic examinations of both the vehicle and the mobile home.

Det. Staff Sgt. Cliff Sexton of the NRP's Major Crime Unit says investigation at the trailer park could last at least a week, if not longer.

"These are very detailed searches that we are going through and they take some time," said Sexton in an interview Wednesday.

Ryczak was arrested without incident shortly after 5 p.m. Monday, and charged with first degree murder in the death of Beck, whose body was discovered on 7th Avenue in Vineland early Sunday morning by a motorist.

Police are not commenting yet on the relationship between the accused and the victim other than to say they were known to each other.

"We're still interviewing people to get an accurate picture of that," said Sexton.

Basilone remained tight lipped about the investigation, saying police are still unable to comment on the location of the murder and the cause of death.

"The process is now before the courts," he said, adding that information is of evidentiary nature and he is unable to say more at this time.

Sexton said it could take until Ryczak goes to trial before any of that information will be made public.

However, during a special forum hosted by Niagara Regional Police in Lincoln Tuesday night, Staff Sgt. Randy Bleich, divisional commander of the 8 District detachment in West Niagara, reassured Lincoln residents the murder didn't happen in Vineland.

"That incident occurred in St. Catharines and, for lack of better words, the body was left here or dumped here," he told the residents in attendance.

Bleich noted police were able to make a quick arrest due to tips from the public. Police were able to use those in their investigation and they were able to arrest Ryczak in less than 48 hours, he said.

Bleich noted detectives from 8 District, as well as the Major Crime Unit were involved in the investigation. There were also dozens of officers from a variety of units within the NRP that were utilized to canvass for witnesses, conduct ground search, interview potential witnesses and collect evidence.

Ryczak appeared in court for a bail hearing on Tuesday and was remanded in custody. He will appear in court again, via video, on March 13.

"A pretrial for St. Catharines resident Wayne Ryczak is also set for January. Ryczak was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Stephine Beck, a 29-year-old woman found by the side of Seventh Avenue in Vineland in March"

But - read the following of this killer - he received one day in jail for the murder of the Beck woman whom has been mentioned on this thread.  http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Crime/2008/05/16/5585856-sun.html

This article is from 2008.

Man gets one day for killing hooker

with the exception of his son who received a suspended sentence for assaulting a sex-trade worker.

and to add insult to injury -

The victim surcharge was waived because Ryczak hasn't had any income while in jail from his job at Newman Brothers, where he makes $75,000 annually, plus bonuses.

(I hope the man lost his job - and will never be hired!!) jb
