I heard on the news that the police have 90 persons of interest, well it is better then no clues at all. In all of those 90, the person responsible could be there. It also could be more then one person. I do hope they solve this crime quickly. Children should be very careful not to enter any areas like this by themselves. They should be accompanied by a couple of friends or family members. Thoughts and prayers to everyone in that community. :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

SURREY, B.C. — A man has been charged with murder in the death of 13-year-old Marrisa Shen, whose body was found in a Metro Vancouver park in July 2017.
RCMP Supt. Donna Richardson, who is in charge of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, said 28-year-old Ibrahim Ali is accused of first-degree murder.
Richardson said the suspect is a Burnaby resident and wasn’t known to police.
Shen’s body was found in a wooded area of Central Park in Burnaby just hours after she had left home at 6 p.m. on July 18, 2017.
Richardson said Ali came to the attention of police two weeks ago, but she would not elaborate.

“We still believe this crime was a random act, meaning that Marrisa did not know the suspect and vice versa,” Richardson said at a news conference on Monday.
She wouldn’t say if police know of a motive.
The investigation into the girl’s death was one of the homicide team’s largest active investigations with over 2,300 investigative tasks completed, Richardson said.
“We methodically went through these individuals and either included or excluded them from persons of interest.

Thank you for the update JB. It doesn't say much about the suspect and I have to wonder if he is an applicant or is a refugee, or has his citizenship.

Condolences to family members. Rest in peace sweet little angel Marrisa. :(

Police say Ibrahim Ali, who arrived in the country 17 months ago as a refugee from Syria, was arrested in Burnaby on Sept. 7.

There really needs to be a proper vetting process for refugees.

Most of murderers family sponsored by a church group. Police have this to say:

I agree with that statement.   It is so easy to blame one community.  Above that,   I hope this young man is able to obtain an interested and good defence lawyer. The evidence is circumstantial... not hard clad with dna etc.

How easy it would be for residents to point fingers at a new immigrant.  That concerns me.....

I hope that this trial is made public..... and not by jury.  The kid would never have a chance.

As long as he gets a fair trial..... whether guilty or innocent, is very important. Not railroaded, shall we say.....

Yes, I do have concerns as well JB. The more I think of it, something seems off. And the community of Syrians is out there too, supporting the family.
