Police continue extensive search for missing Tatamagouche man, 80

The search for an 80-year-old man who has been missing almost a week is continuing in the Tatamagouche area Wednesday.

Willard McKay was last seen on Friday, July 22 in a driveway at a home in New Annan, along Highway 246.

McKay was reportedly driving his grey 2009 Dodge Caravan, with Nova Scotia licence plate CAV 017.
Well-known in community

Police say the same day, he was seen leaving the Ocean Lanes Bowling and Sports Bar in Tatamagouche around 8 p.m.

He requires several medications for existing medical conditions and police say his family is concerned for his safety.

"He's well-known in the community, he's a guy that people want to find. He's well liked," said RCMP Cpl. Marc Rose.

"He'd often give people rides home, go pick them up if they might be at the bar. He was well known in the area of Tatamagouche, helping out people who may need a ride."
'Very challenging' search

Rose says several people have reported possibly seeing McKay since Friday, with "very drastic geographic locations, quite the separation between locations."

McKay didn't have a cell phone and Rose says the search has been "very challenging." A specific starting point is needed for any ground searches.

Tuesday night, officers fanned out over isolated roads in the northern part of Colchester County, trying to follow up on tips, he said.
Extensive search

RCMP brought in a helicopter Tuesday afternoon and it spent four hours scanning the county. Rose says they are waiting on more information and trying to verify tips that have come in before continuing the aerial search.

"It is an option for us in the future. They did a fairly extensive search but again, in wooded areas even a helicopter might not turn up the desired results."

Anyone with information about McKay is asked to contact RCMP.

I hope he did not give the "wrong people" a drive.  ... this is not looking good.
