Missing Saskatchewan teenager Mekayla Bali may have travelled to the U.S.

Police are now saying that a teenager from Yorkton, Sask., who vanished a little over a year ago may have travelled to the United States.

Mekayla Bali was 16 when she was last seen at the bus depot in Yorkton in April 2016.

On Wednesday, the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children issued a release saying the now 18-year-old may have travelled to the areas of Seattle or Portland.

The centre added ?there is reason to believe that she may attempt to cross the U.S. border and travel to those cities.?

On the one-year anniversary of her disappearance, RCMP confirmed that more than 200 tips led investigators to B.C. and the U.S.

The young woman?s mother, Paula Bali, said they had been aware of the information but it hadn?t been confirmed until this week.

She said the tips give her hope they will find her daughter.

But despite all the effort, the RCMP and her family remain frustrated as to what happened to her.

Her mother had previously said her daughter led a quiet life and didn?t do drugs, so ?for her to just go off the grid doesn?t make any sense.?

Only 20 volunteers searched behind the school.   The last place that she was seen.

Only 20?  Is it possible that  a number of people knew something about Meykala that her mother was unaware of - and they assumed that she ran away - so why join a search?
I mean only 20 people in a town cared enough to volunteer?  I wonder if a group of people in Yorkton have the background story all along - and have remained silent./jb

Jellybean, the search on Aug 16/17 was conducted by RCMP which means they would have used a specific number of Search And Rescue Saskatchewan Association of Volunteers (SARSAV) trained search and rescue personnel and not the general public.  It would have been a controlled and methodical search. Still praying for the safe return of Mekayla.

I think Le are chasing the wind. Tips leading them across the border ? No confirmed sightings since the day she went missing. Nothing of any substance.I wonder if they ever did do a ground search in april 2016...and if so, how extensive ?  When they did a search in Aug 2017, was it because of a tip ?  Or just a delayed after  the fact and just to check search ?

Exactly, my original question as well.

One would think that townsfolk, friends, etc would have become involved in a search shortly after she was reported missing.  They would have been knocking on doors as well as putting up posters.
I might have missed something, but I did not read anything along those lines.

Another question - why did she have to be driven to school and picked up after school?
Did this family live in the country?  Even then, school buses are provided for country kids are they not?

And since a detailed description was given of a stranger's tattoo, why was there not a description or a likeness drawing of his face?? This witness should be further questioned to see if he or she can give one.

Why would a young lady, who by her mother's account would not go to "sleep overs", but preferred to make pasta and stay at home suddenly get the courage to travel to BC or cross the border to the US? If her mother is to be believed, her daughter was not the type to "leave the grid"

The girl's lifestyle does not compute with travelling on her own - period.

Something is not fitting in.  Something is just not kosher. Something is fishy, and I can't quite put my finger on it.

So the police received "tips", and they will follow up on each every one.... but were they true tips? - or tips to deflect away from Yorkton??

I think someone in that area knows exactly what happened to Meykayla, and they are too afraid to talk.

I believe that M had arranged to meet someone, with no intentions of leaving home.

She had to be back at the school to meet he grandmother for a drive home when the bell rang at the end of the day.  So she would only have had three hours and a bit - to be away from her school.

Did she visit her bank first, and then the pawn shop? Not to pawn something, but to buy something??. I wonder if she purchased a gift for the person she was to meet??

M was not seen in the company of a man, other than briefly with the tattoo man at the bus depot. She had lunch prior at the bus depot restaurant.....

I do think it is possible that she met someone on line.

Was this the man she was to meet?  One look at him, and she might have ran!!
Unless he told her that he would meet her only to take her to the young man that she was to meet.

But something stumps me... If  the cops went through her computer,  they would have access to all  sites that she had visited, and yet there is no mention that she had participated in any site, other than her facebook.

I think M intended to meet with this person, and then get back to the school on time to be picked up  by her grandmother. Her mother and grandmother would not be any wiser.
Kids do this quite often.  They skip afternoon classes, to play video games at a friends house,, etc, etc.

Just my opinion.

If she skipped school all day, I wonder if she did this before?  I wonder what her marks were like?  Perhaps she did not have any close friends in school - perhaps she did not fit in with the usual cliques.

I am not copying your ideas, but I wondered the very same thing earlier today.

Quote

could have seduced her into meeting and watched her as she went about her day...Her waiting and waiting to meet this person.. They were sly and waited until she was away from the sight of cameras and eyes...Then they pulled up with a big smile,,, get in, get in...sorry I was late,, etc.....Then sometime after that....The true intentions were revealed and things went south fast.....

As I said, I thought the very same thing.....
Very easily done with a bit of planning.
If they have gone through her computer and found nothing..... then it could be a local, who saw her, followed her, and told her to jump in the car.  Perhaps a guy that she had a secret crush on - and he knew it.
She may have ended up in a farmhouse - out of sight.

Farmers should check their land, out bldgs etc. I don't think they have ever been asked.

Long Gone, when M had left Tim Horton's, she was back tracking on streets - walking to and fro, and it struck me that she may have been looking for an address.  She disappeared in that area for about one hour.

I wonder if --- we had the address of that TH location and could use google street, to see if there are residences in that area.

I would imagine that le canvassed that area... but one never knows.

After going to TH's the first time, she returned to TH's and sat there for an hour.  Seems to me she was waiting for someone, and looking for someone when she wandered and doubled back on a street in the TH area.

I too believe that she played hooky to meet with a local.  No young girl would leave her makeup behind, nor some of her ID if she intended to leave town.

Perhaps another search of the area with dogs is warranted in the spring.

I wonder if the man with the tattoo was native?  There is a native owned casino on Broadway in Yorkton.  Just a hunch. That might  explain as to why he has not been identified.
The tattoo man is considered to be a possible witness.

Native counselling and community justice is also offered in Yorkton.

I know he was seen at the bus depot, but I believe he was also spotted around broadway or somewhere close to it.

Either he just happened to be walking in/near the same area that Mykayla was, or he may have had some involvement with sex slave trade of young girls. imho

If CCTVS captured Mekayla walking here, there and everywhere that morning....and, the Police have a person of interest they need to find...then it?s too bad someone doesn?t have hours and hours to spend, pouring over all CCTV around the bus station...may come across more images of the person of interest.  I realize they are saying he?s NOT a suspect...but they need to talk to him anyway.
So much info on her movements that morning....since she seemed to be killing time, I wonder if the perp was running late and advised her not to just hang around the bus station, but to walk around the town.
