The RCMP in Jasper, Alta. say the discovery of human remains on the Athabasca Glacier ends a nearly two-decade old search for a missing New Brunswick man.
Missing 19 years ago, found deceased. Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends.

Hikers discovered a body in the Athabasca Glacier located in Jasper National Park on Thursday.

Alberta RCMP used a helicopter to recover the remains.

Police say the body is of a man who was 28 years old at the time of his disappearance in 1995.

CBC has learned the man is Donald Jean Belliveau.

"We're looking at a 19-year-old missing person case. Plus, even though up on the glacier the ice would have done a good preservation of the body, the clothing matched the exact clothing that the person had. A set of particular glasses that he was wearing at that point in time," said RCMP Sgt. Jeff Campbell.

The Mounties say the man's next of kin have been notified and are grateful to finally have answers to questions they've been asking for 19 years.

The RCMP and the Edmonton Medical examiners office will continue working to determine the cause of death, but investigators say foul play is not suspected.

Thank you for your post Concerned!

quote from above article: "Hikers discovered a body in the Athabasca Glacier located in Jasper National Park on Thursday"

It has often been said by Law Enforcement that many remains are found, by a citizen stumbling upon them. Either by hikers, fisherman, or a person out walking their dog.

Although, in this case, searches were not made for this missing man, it quite often holds true that the discovery of remains is happenstance, even after professional searches fail.

This discovery by citizens, and the reporting of it, can bring relief to families,  and their loved ones can finally be laid to rest.  The reporting of it, is often the key.
