Great! A 34 year old murder finally solved. Thanks for posting this, chrisboy2004.

Tying the young man's hands behind his back and using a shot gun was definitely no accident ... so at least one should be first degree. Was this an isolated incident for the son, or are there similar deaths in the last 34 years? Also the explosives found ... sounds very active yet. I guess we'll hear alot more about this in days to come.

I'm just 10 minutes away, and yes, still very active there. They havent breached the house as yet, waiting on the EDU I guess. Locally the son was known as 'Crazy Willie' ... guess it wasn't so far out. Curiously, nobody ever questioned why he had a bomb shelter behind his house...

We've had a lot of violent crime in Barrie in the last few years, great to see a cold case being solved though.

Hi chrisboy. I understand that you have posted information from a 1978 Toronto Star story in regard to the victim. I'm curious where this new information is coming from in regard to the arrest. If possible can you post a link?

Thanks.

Thanks chrisboy2004 for starting a thread on the old UNsolved murder of Michael Traynor (1978).  And the good news is that there has been an arrest after all this time.

Homes in Barrie evacuated after police find potentially explosive devices and chemicals

680News staff and The Canadian PressJul 12, 2012 18:53:56 PM

BARRIE - A residential area in Barrie has been evacuated after Barrie police and OPP officers found explosive devices and chemicals in a residence.

Police say the executed a search warrant at 30 Virgilwood Crescent, Thursday.

Approximately 25 homes have been evacuated.

The Explosives Devices Unit and the Tactical Support Unit of the Barrie Police Service have been called in.

Police say residents will be allowed to return to their homes on Friday.

Const. Angela Butler says a father and son who were arrested Thursday in the 1978 slaying of Michael Traynor were living in the home.

Donald Feldhoff, 54, is charged with first-degree murder and his father, William Feldhoff, 75, is charged with being an accessory after the fact.

If anyone has information in regards to this residence they can contact Barrie Police at 705-725-7025 ext 2160, the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS

I cannot imagine how the neighbours feel.  First of all they have unknowingly lived beside a killer (and his helpful father), and to think the house could have blown up at any time is unsettling.  The houses are close together too.

I'm home again...family have remained at the trailer up north for the day. The son was always odd, which is why he was locally known as Crazy Willie, but seriously, none of us saw this coming. I think we got lucky nothing ever did go boom.

looking at a comment on that link to 680... "What if a home owner in the vicinity did not want to evacuate? What is the law? Can the police come into anyone's home and remove them?" ... I wonder what is the law on that. My initial thought would be yes as public safety will be a concern to them....

Yes, chrisboy2004...if your family lives in the vicinity, it's best to lay low until the Authorities get that house safe.  It is crazy to think of what could have happened to the neighbourhood.

I really don't understand why anyone would want to stay in the near vicinity once the news came out about all the explosives in the house.  Too risky.

Did the Feldhoff son work?  Or just hang out?

I cant honestly say, I very rarely saw either of them (bar taking out their trash) in the six years or so I've lived here.

Barrie Police are preparing to use 'disrupter' to neutralize explosive devices found on Virgilwood Cres.

It was a stroke of luck (or a sign from above) that police found these explosives when they did! Wonder what these two had in mind. I can't imagine what is going through the minds of neighbors ... how close they were to such danger. If this family had any close friends in the area, it would pay to check their houses too.
