Truro police are asking for the public's help in finding a 21-year-old woman who has been reported missing.

Kashmala Fida was last seen Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. when she dropped her mother off at work.

The vehicle she was driving was found later in the parking lot of the Truro Hospital. She had an appointment at the hospital, but didn't make it there.

Her parents say that is unusual for her.

She is described as five-foot-seven, 128 lbs., and was wearing blue jeans and a white top.

Anyone with any information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the Truro Police Service.


i am extremely upset and angry that another young beautiful woman has again gone missing in this province...And at the thought that someone abducted her as a possablity and took her from her life and her family and friends...this is starting to become unacceptable

Well, if she had an appointment at a hosipital, and since her car was located in the hospital parking lot, if foul play is involved, then obviously "that someone" knew of the appointment and abducted her.
It would be someone "very close to her".

Or - she may have disappeared on her own free will also.

i don't think she would have disappeared on her own as the news article states her parents say that is unusual for her ...it's hard to say exactly what happened to her anything at this time is just spectulation but after the Amber Kirwan murder and the discovery of Melissa dawn peacock just one week ago it's a little disturbing to hear of another young lady just disaapering like that ...AGAIN

I am wondering if any one knew why she had an appointment at the hospital, as well has all departments of the hospital been checked by the police.  As well are any phyc patients missing JMo and wanders.

This is really strange, in so far as hospitals have security cameras at the front entrances... not sure about other entrances however.  I googled Colchester Regional Hospital where her car was found; this property is huge and reasonably sophisticated to the point one would expect security here.

Truro police are asking for the public's help in finding a 21-year-old University of King's College student who has been reported missing by her parents.

Kashmala Fida was last seen Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. when she dropped her mother off at work at the Colchester Regional Hospital in Truro.

The vehicle she was driving was later found in the parking lot of the hospital. Fida had an appointment at the hospital but didn't make it there, said Truro police Insp. Rob Hearn.

Hearn said there's no evidence of foul play, but police are trying to help concerned parents.

"She was due back after supper — which is her normal routine — and they wanted to advise us that she hadn't returned and were concerned about her," he told CBC News.

"The file is with our major crime unit but that doesn't necessarily mean it is a major crime."

Hearn said police are using the Criminal Intelligence Service Nova Scotia system to email a province-wide alert advising officers to be on the lookout for Fida.

News of Fida's disappearance spread quickly across social media sites on Wednesday. Many people shared a YouTube video of Fida talking about her volunteer work with the Red Cross and Roméo Dallaire's Child Soldiers Initiative.

"She's a very outgoing person who trusts people and if there was something going on, then I think that she would absolutely talk to somebody about it," said Stephanie Duchon, the students' union representative for the University of King's College Board of Governors.

"There's been a big outcry on Facebook and Twitter. We're all very concerned."

Fida is described as five feet seven inches tall, weighing 128 pounds with shoulder-length hair. She was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white top.

This sounds really strange to me.....It would have HAD to be someone she knew and that knew where and when she was going to be...It doesn't sound random at all.

The last time I was at Colchester Regional, and I am pretty certain they have not moved to the new one yet, they did not have an overabundance of cameras in the parking lot, if any at all. The main visitors lot is across from the outpatients entrance handy to the ambulance bay.

I know for a fact the hospital in Antigonish has no cameras in the parking lot. They may have some trained on it...but perhaps not a going concern for NS Health or the boards.

although sad to hear that hospital is that far behind the times.... for once, Cape Breton is "way ahead" .... now have lots of video surveylance around.

I do hope mainland NS police find this girl.  It would be good if immigrants to this country could get to see a bold example of how they have arrived in a country where there is freedom of choice, freedom of religion, and protection from oppression for them if they so choose.  ...and this goes for the people of NS too.  Find this girl.... show the world and the rest of Canada.  Be safe Kashmala!  ...for this I pray this night.

According to a recent article, they do have cameras ''trained on'' the parking lots, so who knows?

Until we get rid of some of the whiners and ne'er do wells that oppose something as simple as CCTV, and see the mandate expand beyond the fits and starts it has had in Nova Scotia, and Canada for that matter, there will always be blind spots, even in public places. And there will always be things missed because of that.

The security cameras at large centres are not like those one has at home for personal protection, or business, against intruders. The staff manning will see different areas at any given time. They record what frame the camera captures at the time. There is a window of opportunity if someone wants to abduct a person.
At a large institution with many cameras, several of our vehicles were broken into (right in front of a camera) and we thought it will be on camera and we'll have some answers. Not so. We were told, and since then I've seen, the camera takes interval glimpses of different areas and it's not seconds intervals ... more like several minutes. The only persons who would know where the camera is trained at any given time, are security staff.

Yes, but the general public don't normally see the monitors. Well I can't speak for all institutions, however the three (2 which are very large) I've seen ... the monitors are guarded by security and turned away from on lookers. The place I work at have their own office just outside the hospital but their shades are drawn in a fashion that passers-by can't get a view. Were actually. They are now temporarily inside the ER department but still not in view of the public.

So early in this investigation. We are going by the mother's words, "her daughter dropped her off at the hospital where she works." Who has confirmed the appt that the daughter had? Is there a mental ward where patients are allowed to be free? Also, WHO CAN VOUCH FOR SEEING KASH FIDA THAT A.M? We are assuming it totally on the eye witness, her mother. We all know about the beliefs of the Immigrants, as Nish has pointed out. I would want to know who saw Kashmala Fida that morning. When was the last time a friend spoke to her? Those would be my questions. And who was the doctor she had the appt with. Maybe she left of her own free will, if her parents were controlling. She may have had a secret person in her life and decided to go to parts unknown with the individual. Of course, her friends may know more of her situation. God bless her family and friends and I do hope the police get to the bottom of it and find this young woman safe. She sounds like she is a very bright student, with a great future.My ideas are my opinions only, but being an armchair detective, I just want to give my views on what could have happened to Kashmala. If you are out there Kashmala and you are safe, please phone a police officer and tell him you're okay, whatever your plans are. You are an adult and you have your own rights.
