A Saskatoon garbage bin caught ablaze around 6:40 a.m. on Saturday behind 210 Avenue S south across the street from Pleasant Hill community school.

The body of a 22-year-old male was inside, and police say they are now treating the investigation as a homicide.

"When they were making sure it was out and moving some debris they found a casualty inside," said batallion chief Jim Lindsay.

"There was one a couple of years ago downtown in a metal dumpster, where the person inside was able to be revived."

Police have two persons of interest in custody, and are investigating two locations near the crime scene they believe are related.

One of the locations is a home on the 300 block of Avenue S south, where officers used a battering ram to enter a home after responding to calls about a stabbing on Saturday. They could not find a victim despite an extensive search, and had concluded it may have been a fake call.

Police and arson investigators have not yet released any details about the deceased, but they are actively looking into it, and an autopsy is scheduled for the coming week to determine cause of death.

It sounds as though police already know who the deceased is in this case. They already know it was a 22 year old male. No other information released yet.

Well it is interesting because this happened a couple of years ago. However the fire department got their in time and saved the person's life.

Man charged in dumpster fire murder

CBC News Posted: Jul 18, 2012 4:59 PM CST Last Updated: Jul 18, 2012 4:56 PM CST

An 18-year-old man is charged with second-degree murder.

Police in Saskatoon made an arrest in the murder of Mervin McAdam. McAdam, 22, was found in a burning garbage bin on the 200-block of Avenue S South in February.

Two people were taken into custody shortly afterwards, but were released. Police say the accused is not either of those.

The accused was already in custody on unrelated charges. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
