Thats right Chris.  Who ever did this to Alex, you would think did have some behaviour change, nervous, moody etc.  Prob took time off work.................people have to have noticed something.  Does not make alot of sense.  The only thing in their favor was it took 3 mths before we knew what happened to Alex.

Daisygirl, I have always kept  this case close to my heart for many reasons.  The most profound is that women are missing from everyday life from their own homes without much motive or reason, not that murdering anyone is ever going to be rationalized.  And, the one reason that tugs at my heart is the brutal nature of your daughter's loss as reflected in the evidence that has been gathered. Whoever has done this is a very serious threat to society.

I've often wondered what would come of an indepth behavioral science analysis from a behavioral specialist, a forensic psychologist, etc... to build a profile of the type of killer that would do this, and why. Less, speculation, and more based in concrete scientific analogy a rounded indepth profile.

The results of which, made public in combination with pleas as you have recently posted, just may jog a few memories, or bring someone in the limelight. I can only hope the perp has been in trouble before and that tips the hand in your favor.

I believe there are similarities to your daughter's case to several all over Canada, as well as very near to Wellington...but then again it is not unusual it seems to have them missing without a trace, or with evidence found later which leave little clues. Perhaps some analysis will start putting these pieces together.

My thoughts have always been and will continue to be with you, your family and Alex's friends.

Online support for Alexandra Flanagan

BARRIE  - The family and friends of slain Barrie woman Alexandra Flanagan want people to tune into their computers Monday.

The Facebook group Action for Alex wants people to post information to their wall about the 2007 unsolved murder.

Angelina Briggs said on Family Day she wants people to remember her friend.

“Lets do everything we possibly can do to help generate new leads for the police. Alex needs all our help and we owe it to her to put in every effort,” wrote Briggs on Facebook.

She said last year’s event had more than 500 participants.

Alexandra Flanagan went missing from Barrie July 9, 2007. The 33-year-old hairdresser was last seen in the area of Sunnidale Park July 8. She was wearing pink flip-flops, a black tank top and a pair of beige capri pants.

In October of that year, Barrie police went to Lackies Bush where some of her remains were found.

Days later, a search for evidence was done at a Rose Street home, but no charges were laid.

In February 2008, more remains were found along a bike path at Johnson’s Beach.

Briggs said participating in the event only takes a minute, and may be key to solving Flanagan’s murder.

For more information on participating, go to the Action for Alex page on Facebook.  http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=120261821334868

BARRIE – Innisfil man Andrew Keene, 29, was arrested today in connection to the 2007 murder of Alexandra Flanagan.
Barrie Police Service arrested Keene and charged him with the murder of Flanagan.
He is expected to attend a bail hearing tomorrow, Oct. 21.
Lifelong friend Tracy Pestill said she hopes the family will now be able to put Flanagan to rest.
"That's all Wendy (Alexandra's mom) wants," Pestill said.
Earlier today, the Barrie Advance received a tip that an arrest had been made in connection to Flanagan's murder.
A press conference is being held at the Barrie Police Service headquarters, 29 Sperling Drive, at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. Police expect major crime investigators will be present to field questions from the media.
Police said the Flanagan family has been notified of Keene's arrest and have asked that their privacy be respected at this time. However, it is expected that the members of the family will be in attendance at the press conference tomorrow.
In October 2007, Barrie police searched 175 Rose St. in connection with the disappearance of  Flanagan, about 1.5 kilometres from today's scene.
Today, Dufour said the Barrie Police Service's criminal investigations division is heading the investigation, and said they are releasing information slowly with strict restrictions.
A media release is expected this afternoon, with a press conference scheduled for Friday morning.
OPP canine officers and Barrie police's identification unit was scouring the scene just before noon today.
Dufour said about 20 officers are involved.
Rose Street is closed west of Peel Street with no vehicle access to Highway 400 Northbound. Rose Street from Bayfield Street and the left turning lane on Bayfield Street southbound at Highway 400 is also closed.
Police said the area will remain closed until the investigation is finished

Good news that they have arrested someone!  The cops knew all along who it was, didn't they?   Look how long it takes sometimes, to get that air tight arrest and case before the courts.  Kudos to the Cops for not giving up., and thanks for the Up-Date.
I was just looking through this thread, and although I have read it through before, I never commented, because I got the impression the Cops knew who they wanted.

RIP Alexandra.

I did a jig today at the news! I got goosebumps this morning when I heard on the radio that the 400 and Bayfield were closed off by police for an investigation.  I had a feeling something big was about to break.  I am right now hoping, praying that Alex of the people's remains may soon be fully returned to her family.
It's been a good week.

Latest news that I've been hearing is that they found the rest of her body right by the police station in the North end.  I've heard rumours about the guy they arrested from when they first found parts of her body in Lackies Bush.

Thats messed up.......to dispose of body parts next to a Police Station, thats very cocky & very daring. And it really upsets me that I take the Rose St exit onto the 400 every day for work. To think they have been right there, this whole time, is just mind boggling. How did nobody find her until today? I knew, when I was coming down Bayfield and saw it had been blocked off, and there were Police & helicopters all over, that somethin big was going on. My friend came back from the bank and said that they found the remains of a woman gone missing a long time ago......Alexandra was the first person to pop into my head. So glad she can finally be put to rest, and justice can be served. RIP Alexandra

A 29 year old, dismembering a body. Scattering it around in many areas, through the years it being found. I wonder if they will check him for the senior citizen that also went missing from her house in the same neighborhood as Alexandra. She was found in the lake. There are a few similar cases.

This is bittersweet. The family and Alexandra's good friend, will finally get some peace. Finally. But, then again how much peace do you get when you learn the details. I wish them peace.

...and should we all go and check out the grounds around the OPP detachments for our loved ones, too? Hmmm. At this point, its a lead. Who would have thought.

Heaven hugs to Alexandra.

Finally, they will get some answers.  Peace? I sure hope so.   I'm already worried about the toll of the trial but a trial and some answers is the preferred closing to this horrific case imho. Lighting a candle in honor of Alex and her loved ones right now.

Senior citizen? Lake?! I never heard about that one, can you point me in the direction of some info if you have some time?

Hazel M,

I am watching this case very closely as well, for my relative Penny Warne also disappeared from her home without a trace, similar to Alexandra. Alexandra was cooking, and Penny was obviously still in her housecoat. Penny was 57 at the time.

The senior I mentioned above is Kathleen Sanderson, 70.  Her daughter, Diane S, wrote a heart-tugging entry on Alexandra's thread once, and i have not forgotten her mother since.  It can be found on:

http://www.unsolvedcanada.ca/index.php?topic=562.15

If I recall Ms. Sanderson was found face down in a lake, her daughter thinks that is unusual. Also, there is close vicinity to where she lived. I believe the timing was close as well. I'll have to research that.

Ms. Sanderson's daughter Diana in the thread posted above wrote:

My Mother, KATHLEEN SANDERSON (age 70) was tragically DROWNED last year in Kempenfelt Bay in Barrie, Ontario on April 21, 2008.   Her body was found at approximately 6:30 a.m.  Her TRAGIC death was reported and her name posted to the internet at 08:01 A.M.   This was long before I was notified as next of kin of her tragic death....My mother was a wonderful person, and she too lived on Wellington Street in Barrie....This is NOT the truth however, and I have been silent too long.  I may get arrested for voicing this, but I don't care anymore.  My mother deserves the respect and decency of the truth being told once and for all.  She was killed, murdered in cold blood by someone.  That is the TRUTH, the ugly TRUTH that "they" do not want you to know.  Her body was found very close to where they found the last remains of Alexandra Flanagan....geee uh maybe there is a connection here.  I mean really are you really that obtuse to assume that they are not connected??  Even I as an untrained professional can see the connection here.  Why doesn't somebody give a damn?...

And, then there was this article as well.

BARRIE?Residents are walking cautiously around the city's Lake Simcoe shoreline after more bones were uncovered Saturday during a community cleanup day at Kempenfelt Bay.

Barrie police communications officer Sgt. Robert Scott confirmed Simcoe County's forensics unit and coroner were called in to investigate the gruesome discovery.

"We're not trying to overreact, but in light of recent events, we are being overly cautious," said Scott, adding the bones have been shipped to Toronto for analysis.

Police won't know if the remains, which appear to be a small rib bone, belong to Alexandra Flanagan, who went missing last July, until a forensic analysis is completed.

With the last of the winter's heavy snowfall melting this month, police returned to a local beach last week, where several of the 33-year-old hairdresser's bones were discovered by a dog walker months before.

Two months earlier, a portion of her dismembered body was also found in a heavily wooded area several kilometres south of where she had last been seen by friends on July 8.

They're not the only human remains found at the lake. Last Monday, 70-year-old Kathleen Sanderson's body was found in the waters close to the same local beach, a day after she went missing.

While the police don't suspect foul play in Sanderson's death, they are concerned about anything else the snow may have covered up during the winter months.

"The public is a little leery in light of these discoveries," said Scott.

In July of 2007 Alexandra Flanagan went missing. Last seen waving goodbye to a male friend before crossing Sunnydale Park, Alex Flanagan never made it home. Months later her dismembered remains were found in several different areas of the city. Devestated family and friends were left wondering who could have perpetrated such a grisly crime, and why they chose Alexandra Flanagan as their victim. Still the case went cold or so we thought, until an arrest was made yesterday after more remains were located just steps away from the O.P.P station in Barrie, Ontario.

29 year old Andrew Keene of Innisfil has been charged in the case, but we still await a press conference this morning for more details of the exact charges against Keene. The area where remains were found yesterday is still closed to traffic and will remain so until the police investigation is completed.

Although friends and family may finally get the closure they have waited four years for, the arrest of Andrew Keene raises more questions than it answers.   If Keene is responsible for Flanagan's death, how did he evade capture for four long years? If I am not mistaken (and I admit I may be)was the same area not searched back in 2007? How is it that these remains were not found then? It is also reported to be an area of high foot traffic, so how did human remains go undiscovered for four years?

Concerned,
Thank you for taking the time to supply the information on Kathleen Sanderson that I asked for , I will have to look through it more carefully later.  I am so sorry about your loss of Penny.  With the internet dating involved, perhaps there will be a break soon.  Online  tracks are hard to cover and easily followed by law enforcement.  I see what you mean about the similarities between Penny and Alex.  The animals, and even walmart?!
