BARRIE -- Wendy Flanagan is living a nightmare.

One that goes on for days and days and she can't wake up.

Still, she hasn't given up hope she will awaken with a jolt and find her daughter home, safe and sound.

It has been more than a week since her daughter, Alexandra Flanagan, 33, mysteriously disappeared. The pretty, petite, redhead who works as a hairdresser was last seen by a friend walking at Sunnidale Park on Sunday evening July 8.

No one has heard from her since.

"It doesn't look good," said her mom yesterday as she gazed around her daughter's one-bedroom apartment on Wellington St. "We think something terrible has happened."

Beside her, Alexandra's worried sister, Noelle Carroll, paced. Two furry cats, Mystic and Oliver, meowed and wandered, almost as if they, too, were lonely for their loving owner.

After three days of not hearing from her, Flanagan drove from her Wasaga Beach home to check her daughter's apartment.

She arrived Wednesday and found the cats, hungry and thirsty, with no food in their bowls. A pot of stew on the stove was horribly soured. A call to the salon where she worked confirmed Alexandra hadn't shown up in days.

"Where can she be?" Wendy asked aloud as she cuddled one of her daughter's cats. "Somebody out there must know where she is."

She roamed her daughter's bedroom where a basket of laundry, folded and clean, still sits on her bed. Her phone blinks, filled with messages, as is her cellphone, but her mom doesn't have the password to retrieve them.

"It's like a nightmare. The not knowing," said Noelle, who laughed and chatted with Alexandra the Monday night before she was last seen.

"She was talking about getting tickets for the Beach Boys concert at Casino Rama and surprising her mom.

She has been found. sadly, she was not alive.

July 8 ? Alexandra Flanagan, 33, is seen waving goodbye to friends in Sunnidale Park. When she fails to report for work the next day at a local hair salon, friends and co-workers are concerned, for it is not in Flanagan?s nature to take off without telling friends or family.

July 16 ? Barrie Police begin a search for Flanagan. Posters with her picture are soon seen all over the City. Later that week, the search assumes with an aerial thrust, as OPP helicopters help out, while Barrie officers patrol the grounds around Sunnidale Park.

July 19 ? Friends begin a search of their own, as volunteers comb Sunnidale Park for any sign of the hairdresser.

July 23 ? Police say the search continues, but acting communications spokesperson, Sgt. Mark Sheffer, goes on record saying officers don?t believe she met with foul play.

July 27 ? The search takes on a province-wide aspect, with sightings of young women matching her descriptions reported in Toronto. It is speculated that she has returned to her old stomping grounds, in the Shuter-Sherbourne area of Toronto, as well as the city?s so-called ?gay ghetto? around Wellesley and Church Streets.

August 20 ? Police enter their seventh week of looking for Flanagan, with precious little in the way of leads but loads of theories.

September 11 ? The latest theory has Flanagan in the company of a male acquaintance, according to police, shortly before she vanished on July 8.

October 5 ? Human remains are found just off a walkway on Bristow Court near Lackies Bush. Barrie Police media spokesperson Sgt. Dave Goodbrand says it is a possibility the remains could be Flanagan?s.

October  8 ? Thanksgiving Monday; a vigil is held in Sunnidale Park, with family and friends praying for Flanagan?s safe return and pleading for new leads in the case

October 9 ?A post-mortem is conducted on the remains at the Centre for Forensic Sciences in Toronto. Barrie Police issue a release saying dental records the remains were those of Alexandra Flanagan.

Yeah if there is marks on the bone that would mean she was cut up. Did they mention how she was found? Dressed? Did she have ID? Wonder if there is a traveller out there? Both the killings you talk about are on the route to and from TOronto to the west.

Have you notived anymore simular cases out that way?

Thanks

I think in the alexandrea flannigan murder ,i really do think carol hit the nail on the head when she talked about it not getting the attention it deserves because she was a lesbein .Her bones were scattered in 2 different piles kist bones they sent it to the center of forensic sciences in sudbury and i think it was the bone marow or pulp some new technique they desighned to identify bodies in the 9/11 towers and they used that new dna technique to identify the remains so how they got from her remains to searching a house for 3 days and not making any arrests is beyond me..Chris as to your question yes actually and its a straight line u have this girl were talking about and 10 or so years ago a 16 year old cindy halliday was hitch hiking from barrie towords midland different roads mind you same direction she was picked up and taken in to the woods and stabbed to death prolly sexually assaulted then go another hour north and u have the christina calyanca case where she went missing while camping and going for a morning jog.all three were killed well maybe not christine but most likley killed in the woods or ended up in the woods so who knows ..Some might say well cindy halliday dont fit cause that was like 10 years ago but was it not the B.T.K that killed then would stop for 7 years before he struck again..Oh bu the way not sure if anyone has mentioned it on here or not i seen it on a court tv canada update about a month ago that Karla homolka has finally decided to get the hell outta canada /quebec..lol dont wanna offend anyone here..but ya she fears for her childs well being so she is off to a island in the camens i think it is..I think only one that child has to fear is his mommy if u ask me...

Ha! It is true that the media does not care much for certain people. Class, race, occupation and lifestyle make a huge difference to the media. There are examples of this all across Canada. I don't think they hate these people, I think they just look down on them and don't give a rats ass.

So this possible travelling killer, there does seem to be a pattern? I recall that case you are talking about around Barrie years ago.

I think these killers target the people they know the media will ignore. SInce the media ignore it, the political people can ignore it, and since in Canada the political people control the police priorites, they can pretty much get away with unless the make a mistake.

Well, things are changing. People in Canada are getting fed up with all this. Gangs and people who prey on the least aumng us.

I'll take a look at some other cases along major highways in Ontario.

I have been reading your posts and very interesting and what I want to get straight, and I just want you all to know, the police have been working relentlessley for Alex, it has nothing to do with what her sexuality is, nothing to do with that what so ever, actually Alex was not a liesbian , she lived around that quarter, as she worked around there, she did not drive and walking to work was very easy for her. She did not have to rely on transportation.  Alex made friends with anyone and everyone, which unfortunately probably lead her to where she is today. She did not discrimate against who you were, she was just an outgoing person who loved life and had a free spirit.
She was one of the sweetest people I know, her only downfall was she trusted to much.......... and this is where she is today.

So lets get this straight for once and for all , the police are working very hard on this case, right from the beginning , its a hard case because we do not know where she went that night...................... she seemed to just disappear and thats why we need to know if anyone had seen her that night...............
I know.............. Im Alex's mum.

Hi Daisy, I am so sorry about the lose of your daughter. She sounds like she was such a wonderful person.

I am so pleased the police are working hard on this, it would be nice to have this things solved.

Sorry that we tend to speculate on things, we have tried but are not successful at learning more about this case.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us, and we pray for a quick arrest in this.

Bless you

Chris

Hi Daisy, I am so sorry about you losing your daughter, to some freak. I hope the killer is caught, and made to pay his dues. Alexandra, seemed to me to be a happy go lucky gal, a good friend, and I hope she is finally at peace, as well as you keeping care of yourself.

I do wish that closure of some kind could come to you. I wish her killer caught.

Well i certinally hope that me being someone in the gereral public and getting ingormation the same way as everyone else i would hope i didn;t know anything more then you do daisy. But Maybe you can tell us why it was said that the police were viewing the reports of her being seen in toronto as so credible when we now know thats not the case at all it seems to me that would be followed up actuall sightings being searched and what i think they call just good old fashioned police work but from what i have been told they were tips that were called in that they said were credible and not followed up. Exspecially if that was my daughter i would have to say thats not doing your job as a police officer .But hey as i said earlier i want this person/persons caught and unless the perp or perp's are gonna walk in wearing the orange jump suit i would think they need some (BRAND) new solid information rather then keeping us all thinking at the time she was in toronto .Also this was in the news the first week she went missing how is anyone sapose to help when we dont get any information in the first place. I am sorry for your loss i really am i just think the cops could have and should be doing more.. J.M.O.

kindheart
