Case in point. This is all too common. Chiefs should have their books audited on a regular basis. Physical  inspections of reserves should be held on a regular basis to ensure that the money is going towards the community, so that the chiefs cannot cook the books.

Is it not about transparancy and accountability, the term our government likes to fling around?

I was mortified when I read, about two years ago, that some chiefs earn an annual salary greater than our own prime minister.
And they felt it was justified.

We do not have endless pockets.

Poverty and homelessness is not just an aboriginal problem, it touches all aspects of our society.  Other Canadians need help as well, and we need the breathing room in order to finance it.

They do not want government interference, which auditors would be, plain and simple as that.  As far as the non endless pockets ... recently there is talk on CBC about a young Anishinabe girl that has become an activist against oil. When CBC interviewed her, she and her mother were surrounded by many products that would not be available would there not be oil production. Mother is a single parent ...

PLASTIC.  Actually, just about everything.
