LEAMINGTON -- Three years after Christine Ann Woelk's body was discovered near Point Pelee National Park the province is offering a $50,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of her killer.

"Investigators have spent literally thousands of hours gathering evidence... but we still need help from the public," said Det. Insp. Ian Maule, with the provincial police.

The 49-year-old Leamington mother of two disappeared on May 18, 2004.

Her van was found at the gates of Point Pelee National Park and her body was discovered six days later on the shores of Black Willow Beach.

Investigators suspect that she was in the water for almost the entire time she was missing but because of that it has been difficult to determine the cause of her death.

Police continue to consider her death a homicide.

John Woelk, the victim's brother, said that while the past three years have been difficult, the family is hopeful someone will come forward.

"It's just like a jigsaw puzzle. You have a lot of pieces that are scattered, and then you find one or two and you see the whole picture," he said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Leamington Police at 519-326-3214, the OPP at 1-800-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477.

Police still plead for public help

Christine Woelk was last seen alive May 18, 2004. Her body was found on a Point Pelee beach a week later. Her killer still walks among us.

The Ontario Provincial Police Criminal Investigation Branch, under the direction of Detective Inspector Ian Maule, along with members of the Leamington Police Service continue the investigation into the May 18, 2004 disappearance and murder of Christine Woelk.

On the sixth anniversary of this homicide, Community Service Officer Kevin O'Neil said they are appealing to the public for help in the case.

On May 18, 2004, 49-year-old Christine Woelk disappeared after visiting a friend on Oak Street in Leamington.
O'Neil said evidence shows that Christine was with an unknown male in her vehicle and moments later was observed alone and travelling west toward Erie St. She was reported missing that night and a police search followed.

Two days later, her 1997 Pontiac Transport Van was found between two seasonal cottages on Point Pelee Drive, just outside the gates of Point Pelee National Park, south of Leamington.

"This is a well travelled road and why the vehicle was left in this location is unclear," said O'Neil.

On May 25, 2004 the body of Christine Woelk was discovered in waters off Black Willow Beach, in Point Pelee National Park, seven kilometres south of where the vehicle was located.

The OPP is asking that anyone who can provide information or the name of the person or persons responsible for Christine Woelk's murder or information about how her vehicle came to be on Point Peele Drive to come forward and provide that information immediately by contacting the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122, your nearest police agency or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The $50,000 reward offer and information related to this investigation can be viewed on the OPP website under Crime Files at

The reward will be apportioned as deemed just by the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services for the Province of Ontario and the Commissioner of the OPP.

5/18/2004 - Murder of Christine Woelk

On the 18th of May, 2004, Christine Woelk finished her work shift at the Leamington District Memorial Hospital.  She then visited a friend in the Oak Street area and was later seen in her van travelling west on Oak Street.  There was a man in the passenger seat of the van and they seemed to be arguing.  This was the last time that Christine was seen alive.

One week later, Christine`s body was found on Black Willow Beach in the Point Pelee National Park.  She had not been sexually assaulted and her body showed no signs of trauma.  Police have been unable to pinpoint the exact cause of death.

Christine`s vehicle was found five days earlier parked between seasonal cottages on Point Pelee Drive, about four km from town. There was evidence found inside the van pointing to a violent struggle.

If you have information about this investigation, please call 519-258-8477 or send a tip online by going to the main page.

They also post the reward info, as:

5/18/2004 - $50,000 reward Christine Woelk

Christine resided with her brother and his family in Kingsville Ontario, after ending a 14-year common-law relationship. She had most recently lived at 19 Foster Avenue in Leamington Ontario. Christine had two children.

Christine WOELK was employed at the Leamington District Memorial Hospital in nutrition services, working the day shift on May 18th, 2004. During her lunch hour, Christine met her daughter and shopped for appliances for a new house she was to take possession of on May 25th, 2004.

On May 18th 2004, at approximately 8:35 pm, Christine WOELK, had just left a friend she was visiting and was seen driving west on Oak St. East near Erie St. South in Leamington. She was last heard from during a cellular telephone conversation while driving her vehicle a few minutes later before the phone went dead.

This occurrence was reported to the Leamington Police who immediately treated her disappearance as "suspicious". A search was conducted throughout Leamington and the surrounding area looking for Ms. WOELK and her green over gold 1997 Pontiac Trans Sport van.

On May 20th 2004, her van was located between two cottages on Point Pelee Drive near Road D, south of Leamington, only 1 km from the Point Pelee National Park entrance.

On May 25th 2004, one week after her disappearance, the body of Christine WOELK was discovered at Black Willow Beach in Point Pelee National Park. It appeared that her body had been in the water for several days. An autopsy was performed and no definitive cause of death was established including drowning.

I wonder how hard the authorities looked at the bookkeeper and her drug-addicted son?   Maybe Christine caught wind of the thefts from her ex-husband's business, and the bookkeeper and the son silenced her.
This, in my eyes, was not a random attack.
