Janine Rene Wesaquate (20) Murdered (Dec 2004)
« on: February 01, 2011, 11:12:45 PM »
Regina police believe a woman whose body was discovered at the scene of a house fire last year was the victim of a homicide.

On Tuesday, police confirmed that Janine Rene Wesaquate, 20, was Regina's 10th homicide of 2004.

Fire crews were called to a fire at the house at 1441 Robinson St. shortly after 5 a.m. on Dec. 8. After the blaze was extinguished, firefighters discovered Wesaquate's body.

Several days later, fire and police officials said the fire started in a pile of newspapers next to a couch in the front porch of the house. They also said they hadn't ruled out a deliberately set fire.

Investigators have now determined the cause of the fire was arson and that Wesaquate's death was caused by the criminal actions of another person.

The house is the same one linked in December to the death of Wayne Gerald Friday. Police said they were told Friday was taken from the home on Nov. 20. His body was later found on the Muscowpetung First Nation later.

Five people are facing murder charges in connection with that homicide. All allegedly have connections with street gangs.

No one has been charged in connection with Wesaquate's death. Police said the investigation is continuing.

2 murders, same house, just weeks apart.
