Police in Saskatchewan are renewing their calls for assistance in the case of a missing man, aged 50, whose parents are in failing health.

"Family members of Ricky Riopel reported him missing to police in August of 2010," Saskatoon police said in a news release issued Tuesday. "Mr. Riopel had not been seen or heard from by family members in Saskatoon since December of 2008."

The release did not say why almost two years passed before the man's family reported him missing.

Police did, however, note that Riopel had not dropped out of sight completely as they were able confirm he was at a health care facility in Moose Jaw in October of 2009.

"Investigators now believe the last confirmed sighting of Riopel was in Saskatoon at a downtown shopping mall in September of 2010," police said. "Mr. Riopel's parents are both failing in health which has prompted this additional request for public assistance," they added.

Riopel is described as five feet six inches tall, weighing 160 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 or through the Crime Stoppers line, at 1-800-222-8477.
