Recovered Body

On the afternoon of Friday August 15, 2008 officers from the LaSalle Police Service recovered the body of an unidentified male from the waters of the Detroit River. The body was found floating along the western shore of Fighting Island. Fighting Island is in the middle of the Detroit River, directly across from Wyandotte Michigan just south of Detroit. It is estimated that this body had been in the water for a few weeks at that time. Due to the state of decomposition we are unable to say with certainty the race of the male. Autopsy results were inconclusive as to the cause of death. There were no obvious signs of trauma to his body. It appears this man is middle aged, about 6 foot 1 inch tall and an average to medium build. He had a receding hair line and slight facial hair. The hair color is black with signs of graying. The hair was short and curly. This man had no teeth and there were no dentures in his mouth when he was recovered. He was wearing a pair of gray cargo styled jogging pants with a blue checked long sleeve collared shirt make MASSINI size large and a pair of size 10.5 high top running shoes black and silver in color with a star shape on the outside of each shoe (similar logo to Converse but not Converse). The shoes are not canvass nor leather, they are some sort of man made (leather like material).

We have checked thoroughly throughout Ontario for missing person reports matching this description and have yet to identify this man. It is highly likely this man went missing from an area in or around the Detroit Michigan area. We recovered this male on August 15, 2008. It is likely he went missing on or before August 01, 2008. We are asking for anyone with knowledge of a missing, middle aged male, about 6 feet tall and being of an average build with no teeth, to please contact officers at the LaSalle Police Service Criminal Investigations Division.
