Has purse and cellphone, no bank activity, out of character

Pregnant B.C. woman missing 7 days
Last Updated: Wednesday, April 14, 2010 | 4:19 AM PT
CBC News

The northern B.C. family of a missing pregnant woman is appealing for the public's help to find her.

Abigail Andrews, 28, went missing April 7 in Fort St. John after leaving her apartment at about 6 p.m. PT to walk to a friend's house.

Her family said her disappearance is out of character.

"Abigail is the kind of person that is very communicative," said her father Doug Andrews. "She keeps in touch by email, texting, phone, computer constantly. She texts and emails people every single day.

"There's no transactions with her bank card. She hasn't taken any clothes. She just disappeared with her purse and her cellphone," her father said.

"We're insane with worry and concern."

Fort St. John RCMP have released few details about the case, which has been taken over by its Serious Crimes Unit.

Andrews is appealing for any information about his daughter, who was a few months into her pregnancy. He also wanted to let her know that if she left due to personal problems, her family understood.

"If there is something you can't talk to us about … please just give us a call to let us know that you are safe," he said.

Abigail Andrews is six feet tall and weighs about 200 pounds. She has brown hair and has a tattoo of tribal art on her lower back.

She was last seen wearing a black mid-length, belted trench coat, dark pants and black-sequined flat shoes.

Fort St. John is about 800 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.

Date changed.

Can't help but think this case would get more press if it wasn't in such a remote town.

Strikes me the family in the initial article that Livvy posted seemed almost resigned to the fact that Abigail is deceased. She's been missing less than a month. More information needs to come out here.

Foul play not ruled out in case of missing woman

By QMI Agency

Last Updated: April 15, 2010 6:32pm

RCMP in Fort St. John, B.C. Have been searching a local landfill since Monday for any clues as to the whereabouts of Abigail Andrews.

Andrews, 28, is three months pregnant and has been missing since April 7.

RCMP say they have not ruled out foul play.

Cpl. Annie Linteau said police are combing the landfill for “anything that could be of evidential value ... or that will shed light on the whereabouts of Abigail.” Linteau said RCMP are also following up on a number of tips they've received from the community.

Andrews was last seen April 7, walking away from her home on her way to visit a friend. She is six feet tall, with long black hair, hazel-green eyes, fair skin, and a lower back tattoo of tribal art.

Friends and family have set up a Facebook page to help locate her.

“Every day I come on here to see if there is more information,” wrote Vancouver's Briana Dawson-Sadler on the Facebook group's wall. “She was always the life of the party, you knew when Abbi was in the room. ... It means so much to see so many people are worried and concerned about her and willing to help in finding her. Abbi, you are very much loved, please come home. It just isn't the same without you.” Cpl. Linteau warned, however, that any theories about Abigail's disappearance circulating on the Facebook group are just rumours and cannot be confirmed.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – (Update) Police are searching a landfill site for personal effects of missing pregnant woman Abigail Andrews.

There are fears the 28-year-old who was pregnant has met with foul play – partly because two text messages sent from her phone after she was last seen did not appear to be authored by her.

Andrews was last seen as she was walking away from her home towards a friend’s place on Wednesday April 7, at around 6 p.m..

Cops said they have not ruled out foul play in her disappearance.

Abigail was three-months pregnant at the time she went missing.

Cops said they began searching the landfill site as a result of information compiled during the investigation.

“As a result of information yielded during the course of this investigation, police with the assistance of the Fort St John Search and Rescue team, have been conducting a search of the local landfill. Investigators believe that they may locate at that location evidence that could help further the police investigation,” cops said on Wednesday.

Her family has set up a Facebook page urging people to come forward with information.

“We are asking for your assistance to locate the whereabouts of Abigail Andrews who was last heard from on Wednesday April 7th 2010 in Fort St John, B.C.” says a Facebook appeal launched by her family.

“Abigail was last seen leaving her apartment on 99th Ave and walking down 94th st. towards 98th Ave. She informed her landlord’s father-in-law, that she was walking to her friends’ house on 98th Ave.” said the Facebook appeal.

“She had also shared this same information with her mother, by phone, at approximately 6Pm Wednesday evening. She had the clothes on her back and her purple guess bag. She has not spoken with anyone or been seen since.”

Ben Andrews, her brother, said the family wants Abigail to call them.

“If she needs her space, let us know – she needs to contact us by voice not with text messages,” said Andrews, a reference to the fact that text messages after her disappearance did not appear to be from her.

“Abigail was a good person, she did not hang with the wrong crowd, or use drugs or abuse alcohol. She was a pure genuinely good person! Yes she worked in a Nightclub, but that has nothing to do with her disappearance!,” said Donica Budnick-Canova, one of the administrators of the Facebook page.

“I have not given up hope on finding Abigail – I will not give up hope! Abi we will bring you home!,” she said.

RCMP who issued a press statement six days after her disappearance did not explain why they made no public announcements.

“The police have followed up on numerous tips from the public and continue to actively pursue all available leads received regarding Abigail’s disappearance. All avenues of investigation are being explored but the police have not ruled out foul play at this time,” said a statement issued on Tuesday night by Cpl. Steve Perret.

Abigail is 6′ tall, large build with a lower back tattoo of tribal art. Long brown-black hair, hazel-green eyes and fair skin.

She was last seen wearing a black mid-length, belted trench coat, dark pants and black sequined ballet flats.

“Abigail is pregnant but not yet showing,” he family said.

The police are requesting that anyone who may have any information about Abigail and her disappearance to contact the Fort St. John RCMP at 250-787-8140.

If you wish to remain anonymous please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. They are open 24/7. Tip can be left anonymously online at www.crimestoppersfsj.com. Parents of pregnant woman missing for week fear friend may be involved
BY SAM COOPER, THE PROVINCEAPRIL 14, 2010

The parents of a pregnant woman missing for a week in Fort St. John fear a friend may be involved in her disappearance.

Abigail Andrews, 28, called her mother immediately before walking from her apartment to visit a male friend last Wednesday evening, her father Doug Andrews said.

She was asked to call her mother as soon as she left the man’s home, but never did.

That was out of character for the “very responsible and communicative person” who habitually texted her family about five times a day, Andrews said.

The parents started to fear the worst late Friday night when two “bizarre and crazy” text messages were sent from Abigail’s phone. The words didn’t sound like Abigail — leading the family to suspect messages were fabricated to cover up “foul play,” Andrews said.

Abigail’s brother Ben responded to the texts with messages containing information only she could know, but the sender never replied, Andrews said.

“We are hoping the police will find her body — I want some miracle to happen, but I’m a logical man,” Andrews said Tuesday. “We’re at the point of dealing with the reality we will never see Abigail again.”

The RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Abigail, who was reported missing by her family April 9.

Abigail is six feet tall, with a large build, long, dark hair, hazel eyes and fair skin.

Abigail and her parents had been shopping for baby clothes the day before “she dropped off the face of the planet,” her father said. He added that his wife Debbie was knitting a baby blanket for the grandchild she may never see.

“Abigail was so happy and looking forward to having this child,” Andrews said. “She wanted to be her best and do her best for this child.”

Andrews said his daughter was the most gentle, trusting, sincere person imaginable “but, by the same token, she could have used more caution in dealing with people.”

The family had urged her to quit working at a local bar.

“The people she associated with led to her downfall,” Andrews said.

Sadly, no other developments.  It makes me wonder if they are looking in the right directions. So much emphasis on her missing and searching for a body in the dump, etc. But, one thought crossed my mind is that there are so many shows on television and news reports about people who are trying to obtain a baby. Usually women desperate to have one, or ones that told their significant other they were pregnant to keep the relationship cemented and now need to make good on that fib. The TV sitcom about a pregnant psychiatrist working at a medical clinic and her patient went psycho and took her baby from her before being born. Sick, sick things in the media. But you wonder if it could influence someone to do such a thing. Perhaps LE should publicize a media release asking people to report any possible incidence of a person who claims to be pregnant, acting strange. Or if someone should all of a sudden have a baby when no one knew they were pregnant or adopting. Perhaps that is a direction worth pursuing before it is too late. Just a theory.

Abigail is said to have left her house with her purse and her cell phone. Does anyone have a picture of her purse and/or cell to post. Maybe someone has found it somewhere and will come forward with the information on where. Just trying to add some ideas to help family and friends look.

Usually when someone goes missing, go right to the place where they were last known to be. If she was going to see a friend and she got to the friend's place, a male friend, he should know something. If she did not show up, who called her last. Did he ever check with her family to see where she was? This male friend would be a POI, especially if she was going to call the family home when she was leaving the friend's place. It sure sounds like something terrible has happened to Abigail. A lot of unanswered questions. ??? ??? ??? ???
