New Way To Kidnap Women
« on: January 25, 2010, 12:29:32 PM »
I received this in an email this morning.  I do wish people would include the source of these articles.  However, regardless of the source, this message is worth sharing.  We have to keep informed!

NEW FORM OF KIDNAPPING

Please take a minute to read this. This is very scary and could happen to
any of us.. Seems like every nice thing people do for one another can be
perverted..

A new twist on kidnapping from a very smart survivor:

About a month ago there was a woman standing by the mall entrance passing
out flyers to all the women going in. The woman had written the flyer
herself to tell about an experience she had, so that she might warn other
women.

The previous day, this woman had finished shopping, went out to her car
and discovered that she had a flat.

She got the jack out of the trunk and began to change the flat. A nice man
dressed in a business suit and carrying a briefcase walked up to her and
said, 'I noticed you're changing a flat tire. Would you like me to take
care of it for you?'

The woman was grateful for his offer and accepted his help. They chatted
amiably while the man changed the flat, and then put the flat tire and the
jack in the trunk, shut it and dusted his hands off....

The woman thanked him profusely, and as she was about to get in her car,
the man told her that he left his car around on the other side of the
mall, and asked if she would mind giving him a lift to his car.

< BR>She was a little surprised and she asked him why his car was on other
side.

He explained that he had seen an old friend in the mall that he hadn't
seen for some time and they had a bite to eat, visited for a while, and he
got turned around in the mall and left through the wrong exit, and now he
was running late.

The woman hated to tell him 'no' because he had just rescued her from
having to change her flat tire all by herself, but she! felt un easy .
(Trust that gut feeling!)

Then she remembered seeing the man put his briefcase in her trunk before
shutting it and before he asked her for a ride to his car.

She told him that she'd be happy to drive him around to his car, But she
just remembered one last thing she needed to buy (Smart woman!!)

She said she would only be a few minutes; he could sit down in her car and
wait for her; she would be as quick as she could be

She hurried into the mall, and told a security guard what had happened,
the guard came out to her car with her, but the man had left. They opened
the trunk, took out his locked briefcase and took it down to the police
station.

The police opened it (ostensibly to look for ID so they could return it to
the man). What they found was rope, duct tape, and knives... When the
police checked her 'flat' tire, there was nothing wrong with it; the air
had simply been let out.  It was obvious what the man's intention was, and
obvious that he had carefully thought it out in advance. The woman was
blessed to have escaped harm.

How much worse it would have been if she had children with her and had
them wait in the car while the man fixed the tire, or if she had a baby
strapped into a car seat? Or if she'd gone against her judgment and given
him a lift?

I'd like you to copy and paste this to all the women you know. It may save
a life.

A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle. I was going to send
this to the ladies only; but guys, if you love your mothers, wives,
sisters, daughters, etc.., you may want to pass it on to them, as well.

Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that The
world we live in has a lot of crazies in it. Better to be safe than sorry.

lostlinganer: Good notice of awareness to ones surroundings.  I often get asked if I could go with a lone person to their car and I do not mind. I am finding as time progresses, more and more people are becoming more fearfull of each other. I find this a sad implication to what is happening in society.  I often play Santa for hire at Christmas and notice much change in attitudes as time goes by. Trust in people is becoming more weiry.

I know I put up a list a few weeks back on another thread..... it was about life-saving situations.  I wish the two or three threads dealing with that stuff were combined.  Here's one I recieved this week......

Passed along by Police Department & Courthouse

Several things to be aware of this year...as gangs and robbers are now plotting different ways to get a person to "stop" their vehicle.   Please send to your friends.

Please note:

 1)  There is a gang initiation reported by the local police department that gangs are placing a car seat by the road..with a fake baby in it....  waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check on the baby...

Note that the location of this car seat will usually be beside a  wooded or grassy (field) area ...and the person - woman - will be dragged into the woods- beaten and raped- usually left for dead.

DO NOT  STOP.  DIAL 9-1-1 AND INFORM THEM.....

2)  IF YOU ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND EGGS ARE THROWN AT YOUR WINDSHIELD.

DO NOT OPERATE THE WIPER AND SPRAY ANY WATER BECAUSE  EGGS MIXED WITH WATER BECOME MILKY AND BLOCK YOUR VISION UP TO 92.5% SO YOU ARE FORCED TO STOP BESIDE THE ROAD AND BECOME A VICTIM OF ROBBERS.  THIS IS A NEW TECHNIQUE USED BY ROBBERS.

Thanks for sharing, Lost.  I remember an incident about 15 years ago when I was coming home from downtown. The car in front of me had rear ended a woman's car in front of him. When she stopped and got out of her car to look at the damage, the van directly in front of her had not moved even though the light had changed. Both drivers had begun to get out of their vehicles and were headed in her direction.

I was in the vehicle behind the one that hit her bumper and the situation didn't seem right. I pulled to go around them and right when I got up next to her, and saw that she was starting to feel the uneasiness that I was feeling, I quickly unlocked the passenger side door and screamed at her to get in my car. Luckily she didn't hesitate. As we pulled away, she was reluctant that she had left her purse and items in the vehicle and the car behind. But, i think we both knew, they were just "things" and she needed to get away. I don't know how you go back to your house, when your id left behind clearly states where you live. I memorized the license plate of the other vehicle, so at least she had some way of hopefully reporting the situation.

I often wondered what would have happened to her if she had had a child in the car seat and couldn't leave the scene. At any rate, it is good to not stop so close behind a vehicle that you don't have a way out of the situation.

SAP, I always check them out too - unless it comes from somebody I know who is also in the habit of check with snopes as well.  This time, it looks like they didn't. :-[   Snopes are showing this email is FALSE.

The sad part of this is - these kinds of emails give ideas to the people who actually do these God-awful acts against unsuspecting woman.  So I don't know whether to delete it, or leave it up as another "beware".  what do you think?

Don't delete it Lost. Like you said, many people get these mails and who knows...the wrong person may also and find it useful.
It still helps people to beware b/c there are all type of cons. Even if it is false, it still could happen.

In USA many years ago I had read that a murderer got his prey by wrapping his arm in a huge bandage and then awaiting young girls to come along in some kind of a car park near a beach. He would ask assistance to unlaod a boat  and they unsuspecting his motives helped him and he apparently had killed quite a few.

One night late, like about 1 AM, I was driving alone on the highway of tears. I came upon a strange set-up off the highway...a few vehicles in the ditch and someone was flagging me down. I had my brights on and didn't see that it looked like an accident at all. Some doors were open. I had slowed down a bit but gunned my truck around the flagger. Next day I checked for accidents down the highway, phoned the Police and there had been nothing happened there. I did feel guilty in case someone was hurt but no way at night am I stopping to help.

In nothern AB, coming around a corner in a little hamlet, again mid of night, and just enough away from most of the housing and near bush, I found a body laying on the side of the road. A female. She was turned in such a way with her hair covering her face but open a bit around the eyes...I did slow down but considered the thick bush very near, and gunned it again. Down the road I flashed my lights at an on-coming vehicle and the man stopped. I had told him what I had seen by the corner he would soon be approaching and if he had a cell, please call the Police. Next day I called the Police again in that area to check if someone had been found wounded or dead, and there was nothing again.

So even if those mails are False, it can happen and there are enough out there that will try anything.

Just in, some new tips. Got to love the car alarm one (two last ones). Note, be careful of wasp spray though, the contents expire quickly and the can often gets jammed. Don't know why.

THIRTEEN THINGS YOUR BURGLAR WON'T TELL YOU:

I am particularly interested in the part about the wasp spray...

1. Of course I look familiar. I was here just last week cleaning your carpets, paint ing your shutters, or delivering your new refrigerator.

2. Hey, thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in youryard last week. While I was in there, I unlatched the back window to makemy return a little easier.

3. Love those flowers. That tells me you have taste... and taste means there are nice things inside. Those yard toys your kids leave out always make me wonder what type of gaming system they have.

4. Yes, I really do look for newspapers piled up on the driveway. And I might leave a pizza flyer in your front door to see how long it takes you to remove it..

5. If it snows while you're out of town, get a neighbor to create car and foot tracks into the house. Virgin drifts in the driveway are a dead giveaway.

6. If decorative glass is part of your front entrance, don't let your alarm company install the control pad where I can see if it's set. That makes it too easy.

7. A good security company alarms the window over the sink. And the windows on the second floor, which often access the master bedroom - and your jewelry. It's not a bad idea to put motion detectors up there too.

8. It's raining, you're fumbling with your umbrella, and you forget to lock your door - understandable. But understand this: I don't take a day off because of bad weather.

9. I always knock first. If you answer, I'll ask for directions somewhere or offer to clean your gutters. (Don't take me up on it.)

10. Do you really think I won't look in your sock drawer? I always check dresser drawers, the bedside table, and the medicine cabinet.

11. Here's a helpful hint: I almost never go into kids' rooms.

12. You're right: I won't have enough time to break into that safe where you keep your valuables. But if it's not bolted down, I'll take it with me.

13. A loud TV or radio can be a better deterrent than the best alarm system. If you're reluctant to leave your TV on while you're out of town, you can buy a $35 device that works on a timer and simulates the flickering glow of a real television. (Find it athttp://www.faketv/. com/)

8 MORE THINGS A BURGLAR WON'T TELL YOU:

1. Sometimes, I carry a clipboard. Sometimes, I dress like a lawn guy and carry a rake. I do my best to never, ever look like a crook.

2. The two things I hate most: loud dogs and nosy neighbors.

3. I'll break a window to get in, even if it makes a little noise. If your neighbor hears one loud sound, he'll stop what he's doing and wait to hear it again.. If he doesn't hear it again, he'll just go back to what he was doing. It's human nature.

4. I'm not complaining, but why would you pay all that money for a fancy alarm system and leave your house without setting it?

5. I love looking in your windows. I'm looking for signs that you're home, and for flat screen TVs or gaming systems I'd like. I'll drive or walk through your neighborhood at night, before you close the blinds, just to pick my targets.

6. Avoid announcing your vacation on your Facebook page. It's easier thanyou think to look up your address.

7. To you, leaving that window open just a crack during the day is a way to let in a little fresh air. To me, it's an invitation.

8. If you don't answer when I knock, I try the door. Occasionally, I hit the jackpot and walk right in.

Protection for you and your home:

If you don't have a gun, here's a more humane way to wreck someone's evil plans for you. (I guess I can get rid of the baseball bat.):

WASP SPRAY

A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area was concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to rob them when they were counting the collection. She asked the local police department about using pepper spray and they recommended to her that she get a can of wasp spray instead.

The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote. She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn't attract attention from people like a can of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby at home for home protection.. Thought this was interesting and might be of use.

FROM ANOTHER SOURCE

On the heels of a break in and beating that left an elderly woman in Toledo dead, self defense experts have a tip that could save your life.

Val Glinka teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview High School . For decades, he's suggested putting a can of wasp and hornet spray near your door or bed.

Glinka says, "This is better than anything I can teach them."

Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective than mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so if someone tries to break into your home, Glinka says, "spray the culprit in the eyes". It's a tip he's given to students for decades. It's also one he wants everyone to hear. If you're looking for protection, Glinka says look to the spray.

"That's going to give you a chance to call the police; maybe get out."

Maybe even save a life.

Put your car keys beside your bed at night

Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Dr's office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across. Put your car keys beside your bed at night.

If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around. After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

P.S. I am sending this to everyone I know because I think it is fantastic. Would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone. My Mom has suggested to my Dad that he carry his car keys with him in case he falls outside and she doesn't hear him.. He can activate the car alarm and then she'll know there's a problem.
