 Stephanie Stewart still not found.
Stephanie went missing from the place she spent most of her year. At work , where she stood watch over a firetower.Near HINTON Alberta. No one seems to have come forward. She was a tough lady, who climbed mountains, and went missing with her blankets, and hasn't been seen since.

Second Public Plea To Find Missing Alberta Forestry Worker
May, 15 2007 - 11:40 AM

CALGARY/AM770CHQR - The Mounties are issuing another appeal for public help as they try to find out what happened to a woman who went missing from a fire lookout tower in near Hinton, Alberta last summer.
70-year-old Stephanie Stewart was last seen in August last year, and the RCMP believe she's been the victim of foul play.
During the upcoming May long weekend, people will be hiking in the region where Stewart disappeared, so RCMP are asking them to be on the lookout for Stewart or clues to her whereabouts.

I guess they have a hunch she is going to be found in the bush somewhere. I guess that also means they have no indication that she is alive.

This is about the most baffling case out there. No one seemed to want to harm this person. No ex, no boyfriend, no nothings.

I still think that Stephanie Stewart, saw something, either on the highway, or knew something. She was taken, and left who knows where. Her vehicle was left, and blakets taken. Below is the tower she worked. Athabasca, near Hinton. From the height of the tower, she had a good view, and with binoculars, an evan a better view.

That very well is probably what happened. I kind of get a feeling there is a suspect otherwise the police would appeal for tips from the public. It is hard to make a case without a body. I hope they get this case solved soon.

Stephanie Stuart Still Missing:::

By MICHELLE THOMPSON, SUN MEDIA

It?s been two years since a diminutive fire spotter vanished from her post at the Athabasca Lookout Tower, a popular tourist destination footing the Rockies.

Helicopters have long stopped scouring the steep terrain for signs of Stephanie Stewart. An exhaustive ground search has long been called off.

But cops say they have not stopped searching for answers into the baffling disappearance of Stewart, whose name will long be synonymous with the tower she vanished from.

?Investigators just wanted us to let everybody know they are still working on the case,? said RCMP spokesman Craig Albers.

?It?s not something we?re going to forget about.?

It was summer?s last call, on Aug. 26, 2006, when colleagues reported Stewart missing. She?d failed to report for work that morning, an out-of-character move for the 70-year-old who spent the past 18 fire seasons manning the tower.

The mother spent the last morning of her life placing a pot of water on the stove. But after beginning her daily routine, she was interrupted.

The pot remained untouched.

But police said other items were missing from Stewart?s cabin, about 25 km north west of Hinton, including bedding and a watch.

Police are treating the case as a homicide.

?It?s definitely a suspicious disappearance,? Albers said. ?(Investigators believe) Stewart?s disappearance was not the result of an accident or a predator attack.?

Hoping to generate renewed interest in the case, Mounties distributed new missing persons posters in the Hinton and Jasper areas this spring.

Last year, police released a video clip from family footage, showing Stewart leading the camera through her little home.

Keeping the case in the forefront is helping investigators gain tips, Albers said.

?The biggest thing we?re trying to do is rekindle the public?s interest in the case,? he said.

?There is somebody out there who has information.?

There?s a $20,000 reward for tipsters who help investigators solve this case.

Anyone with information is asked to call Hinton RCMP at (780) 865-5544 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Stephanie Stuart is still missing, so now the police want to know who killed her?

Why would anyone take a spirited elderly lady, and hurt her in any way?

Who killed Stephanie Stewart?

Two years after the diminutive fire spotter vanished without a trace from her post at the remote Athabasca Lookout Tower, the unsolved mystery lingers. So does a $20,000 reward for information that would help investigators solve the case.

Cops say they have not stopped searching for answers into the baffling disappearance of Stewart.

"Investigators just wanted us to let everybody know they are still working on the case," said RCMP spokesman Craig Albers. "It's not something we're going to forget about."

On Aug. 26, 2006, colleagues reported Stewart missing. She'd failed to report for work that morning, an out-of-character move for the 70-year-old who spent the past 18 fire seasons manning the tower.

The mother spent the last morning of her life placing a pot of water on the stove in her adjacent cabin, about 25 km northwest of Hinton.

But after beginning her daily routine, she was interrupted. The pot remained untouched.

But police said other items were missing from Stewart's cabin, including bedding and a watch.

Police are treating the case as a homicide, not an accident or predator attack.

Hoping to generate renewed interest in the case, Mounties distributed new missing persons posters in the Hinton and Jasper areas this spring.

"The biggest thing we're trying to do is rekindle the public's interest in the case," Albers said. "There is somebody out there who has information."

Stewart is described as about five-foot-one and 100 to 105 pounds, with blue eyes, permed shoulder-length grey-auburn hair and glasses.

Anyone with information is asked to call Hinton RCMP at (780) 865-5544 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

"The video shows a vibrant active woman, who enjoyed her work. It shows Stephanie completing her weather reports, office chores and climbing the lookout tower, which she did many times a day."

This snippet from the one year update on her disappearance confirms that Stephanie more or less lived on the ground and climbed the tower for observation purposes.  I didn't think they had to live in the sky.  It's an odd assortment of bedding that's missing, along with the watch.  The kettle is certainly odd.  If this is homocide I wonder if it was meant to boil dry and create and 'accidental' fire that would obliterate evidence for miles?

From what I understand  leaving a pot of water to boil dry would not be an effective way to create a fire and likely would not even be on the radar as a a top ten choice even if it was meant to look accidental. Perhaps leaving a pot of oil on the stove to burn, but there are so many easy ways that criminals use. Intentional fires are set like intentional fires, even if they are to look accidental. What would a fire be trying to conceal? If someone is trying to hide evidence and set a fire to hide evidence, in those cases they do not leave a fire to chance, it is always incendiary and evidenced as such.

The bedding be missing is without explanation. When one is out there and living out there, it is not something that you would forget to bring with you. I think the bedding either contained evidence or was used to conceal, upon removal. IMO there is nothing to indicate foul play was NOT involved.

Stephanie had gray/auburn hair. She was a tiny person, at around 105 lbs. The setting she disappeared from was very isolated, and the articles missing indicate that she did not leave on her own.
