 >:( >:(  ....will it ever end?  are people gone MAD?  .... how are so many little children falling victim to so many human Animals?  There has got to be a way to make children safer.  If it takes scaring them to death, well better than what else can happen if they cannot be taught to be able to avoid the likes of this.
Children should be taught at home and in schools, to never leave "the pack"..."safety in numbers" etc. "stick with your group, even if you're fighting or not getting along" ....if that's what it takes.  There are just too many preditors out there..... way too many....in fact one is too many.  I wish these child molesters/stalkers/killers would get mobbed, once "found out"....and never make it to court!

I am wondering in what space of time that Somer was missing from her friends. If she ran off ahead, how much time would she have been alone and what kind of a window is there for an abduction? Her mom didn't report it for two and a half hours , as soon as she found out.  A person could be more then 100 miles away. If this is a wooded area, how far are these young children walking home from school, because it mentions a wooded area? So there is not much chance of video surveillance helping in this case, unless private homes would have video of anything. It sure does not sound good at this time, but we will say prayers for Somer and hope for her safe return. Parents must keep a close eye on their chidren and also warn them not to be any place alone, to settle the differences when they get home. Especially at this time of the year when it is halloween and there are some who cannot be trusted. Prayers once again for the safe return of Somer. ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

It is so sad that this has happened once again to a small child. How many predators are there out there that could just come upon Somer so quickly and abduct her. It is likely Somer that they found, because she was the only child missing. It is just a good thing that they found her body so quickly, that is good, because they may have the DNA secured and find her killer. The animals that harm children should never be let out of jail. Let them rot in there, just throw the key away. These people cannot be rehabilitated, they are evil and will reoffend again and again. If they find the murderer, I pray that justice is swift and that they are behind bars quickly. ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

I'm sick to my stomach... this shouldn't be happening at such an alarming rate.  Children need to be warned about "being alone" out there....don't be alone...always be with others!  As well, as I think back to the other cases eminating from family connections, Children should be taught in day cares, in school, in families - to dial 911 if they are scared to death.  ...even in the care of individuals.  I know people don't want to bring up their children in "fear" and "what if/s" ....but that's exactly where we are at this point in time and "that's what it is!". >:( >:( >:( >:(

Florida has the DP. I hope they find this evil person or persons and he/she knows what he/she will get......a long blunt needle dripping with death. And that's a fact.

Sheriff says body in Ga. landfill tentatively identified as missing 7-year-old Fla. girl
Thu Oct 22, 9:18 AM

By Brent Kallestad, The Associated Press

ORANGE PARK, Fla. - Authorities have tentatively identified a body found in a landfill as that of 7-year-old Somer Thompson, a north Florida girl who disappeared on her walk home from school, the sheriff in charge of the case said Thursday.

Sheriff Rick Beseler said the tentative identification was based on clothing and on a birthmark that matched the girl's.

The partially covered body of the child was found Wednesday in a Georgia landfill near the Florida state line, after investigators followed garbage trucks leaving the neighbourhood where the child disappeared Monday.

Somer's father and other family members were "torn up" after hearing the news, aunt Laura Holt said. She hopes authorities will find her niece's killer.

"I don't think they deserve to live," Holt said. "I don't think there's anything worse that a person can do - to kill a child and dump her in the dump like a piece of trash?"

Beseler wouldn't talk about what evidence police have recovered, or whether investigators believe the crime was committed by one or more people. He said police have questioned more than 70 registered sex offenders in the area, and that process was continuing. Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show 161 offenders live in an eight-kilometre radius of Somer's home.

"I fear for our community until we bring this person in. This is a heinous crime that's been committed," Beseler said. "And we're going to work as hard as we can to make this community safe."

The sheriff said he told the girl's mother to prepare for the worst, and called her after receiving the news Wednesday night.

"Needless to say, she was absolutely devastated," he said. "It was the hardest phone call I've ever had to make in my life, and I hope I never have to make another one like that."

Two deputies stood guard at mother Diena Thompson's home early Thursday morning. It appeared to be full of supporters. An oak tree across the street was decorated with flowers, candles and pictures of Somer.

"This has been so unreal for the neighbourhood," said Sharon Galloway, who lives across the street from the Thompsons. "I just hope they get that son of a gun and tie him up by his short hairs."

An FBI forensic unit is helping process evidence from the landfill in Folkston, Ga., about 75 kilometres from where the girl disappeared.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation planned an autopsy Thursday in Savannah.

Somer vanished on her walk home from school in Orange Park, a distance of about 1.6 kilometres. She was squabbling with another child, and her sister told her to stop. The girl got upset, walked ahead of the group and wasn't seen again.

Authorities launched a countywide search involving helicopters, dogs and volunteers walking arm-to-arm through wooded areas.

Orange Park is a suburb of Jacksonville just south of Jacksonville Naval Air Station. The area where the girl disappeared is a heavily populated residential area with homes, apartment complexes and condominiums.

The girl's father, Sam Thompson, lives in Graham, N.C.

My heart and prayers go out to the family at this most tragic of times. A brother has lost his twin. A mother her daughter, a father his daughter, a sister her sibling.
My added prayer's are this person(s) is caught and justice is served swiftly.

I do hope that there will be an arrest soon in the case of Somer. Especially the fact that they found her body so quickly, that may help in identifying her killer. I just wonder why it was so long before she was reported missing. Her stepfather went looking for her, but why did it take so long for her mother to know and she was missing for two and a half hours??? I hope they have the best investigators on this. RIP Somer and my prayers to the family and also to the police in their investigation of this case. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
