Just reading up on Martin being missing. A report from a local newspaper also states that the interior of his truck had burn marks?  That seems to be the only additional info I could find.
Very strange that he could just evaporate like that and nobody saw anything.
I would be looking into the previous days events a bit more.

Wife of man missing 8 months still hopeful

Claudia Belanger says she just wants her little girl to find her dad, who's been missing since May 17, 2009. (CBC)It's been eight months since a Spruce Grove, Alta., man disappeared without a trace, but his wife says has still not given up hope he will be found safe.

Martin Belanger, 24, was last seen on May 17, 2009, after leaving home to go shopping.

"He said, 'OK baby, I'll be back in 10 minutes, and I love you,'" Claudia Belanger told CBC News.

When he still hadn't returned half an hour later, she began to worry.

"I sent him about four or five texts and he still never texted back and that's when I was saying 'something's not right,'" she said.

"So I know whatever happened to him happened within half an hour after he left."

His 2006 Ford F150 was recovered 80 kilometres southwest of his home, near Tomahawk, in early July, but Spruce Grove RCMP investigators turned up no leads.

His daughter was born in August.

"It hurts because when she's older and wants to know what happened to her dad, I've got nothing at all to tell her," said Belanger.

Both the police and family said Belanger had no history of physical or mental illness, nor any known ties to gangs or drugs.

RCMP discover missing man's truck
Updated: Wed Jul. 08 2009 15:02:15

ctvedmonton.ca

The RCMP have made a development in the case of a 24-year-old Spruce Grove man who has been missing since May.

Last week, RCMP received a call about an abandoned truck in a Tomahawk parking lot.

Police confirmed that the 2006 Ford F150 belongs to Martin Belanger who has been missing for nearly two months.

The vehicle is currently being examined by investigators and the RCMP are treating the man's disappearance as a suspicious. The vehicle was found abandoned and had burns on the interior, according to Drayton Valley staff sergeant Jim Wong.

Belanger was last seen around 2 p.m. on May 17 leaving his home in his maroon-coloured 2006 Ford F150.

He was last seen wearing:

A white T-Shirt with green and red stripes
Blue jean shorts, and blue Nike shoes
He is described as approximately five-foot-eight with blond hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Another case in which the victim just disappears.  After a year, AND STILL nothing.  It is odd to me that so little is being told about Martin, his lifestyle, did he work? Seems he must have as he owned a 2005 Half ton and a cell phone.  Not even saying where he went shopping.  Why is this info being with held?  the police are asking for help, but not giving out any info to work with.

Something definately happened to Martin, but it seems he's all but been forgotten.

Two years ago, a Spruce Grove resident left home and never returned. Now, charges have been laid in his murder.

RCMP Constable Barbara Roy says it all began with a disappearance.

"May 17th of 2009, we had a missing person reported," Cst. Roy explains. "Mr. Martin Belanger was reported missing, he had left his home and didn't come back. Since then, in July of 2009, his truck was found partially burnt out by Tomahawk, Alberta."

It was then that the investigation changed from missing person, to homicide.

In the last week, RCMP obtained information that led them to Belanger's remains, and charges have now been laid against two Stony Plain residents.

Christopher John Elder, 35, is charged with 1st degree murder, and Dean Duane Deford, 41, is charged with accessory after the fact. (scb)

Dean Deford was first charged with accessory after the fact and that changed to 1st degree murder according to this article, so who was already out within a year after 1st degree? They destroyed so many lives ... the little child and mom without a daddy/husband, and all of Martin's family in Quebec plus friends.
Yes, too bad the police dog didn't go for the carotid.
Such a short time in jail in our system, gives these scum a good life ... big screen TV and all the movies they can watch, they can work on a degree or trade if they want, good meals and exercise ... even sports, ALL at the expense of the taxpayers who when they are old and need nursing homes don't get the privileges they afforded these scum. >:(

A Stony Plain man who was charged for his alleged role in the slaying of a 24-year-old man is now facing a first-degree murder charge in relation to the crime.

Police say Dean Duane Deford, 41, was charged with first-degree murder Wednesday. He was already charged with accessory after the fact to murder on June 12.

Christopher John Elder, a 35-year-old Stony Plain resident, is also charged with first-degree murder in relation to the slaying death of Martin Daniel Francis Belanger -- a 24-year-old who had lived in Spruce Grove for four years before he mysteriously vanished on May 12, 2009.

His disappearance prompted Mounties to kick-start an extensive investigation to find Belanger, a former resident of Trois-Pistoles, Que. who was last seen leaving his home in his red Ford F-150 at about 2 p.m. the day he went missing.

His truck was found partially burned in July 2009 near Tomahawk and that is when police suspected foul play, Mounties say.

Police say a further investigation led them to a property at a rural property southwest of Stony Plain where they found Belanger's remains.

Const. Barbara Roy, a spokeswoman with the Spruce Grove and Stony Plain RCMP, says further details about the investigation won't be released.

Police remain tightlipped on how police discovered the remains, along with whether or not Belanger knew his alleged attackers.

Investigators have also withheld information on how Belanger was killed.
