Man gets life for murdering wife, leaving her in car trunk

A jury has convicted a man of first-degree murder for beating his wife and leaving her to die in the trunk of her car.

Ghislain Dion, 37, was convicted and sentenced Sunday near Montreal to life in prison with no parole for 25 years for killing Julie Croteau.

"I think justice has been done," said Andre Chartrand, Croteau's uncle. "He got what he deserved today."

The 32-year-old nurse was found in the trunk of her car in a Saint-Hyacinthe shopping centre Oct. 27, 2005.

Dion's former mistress testified during the trial that Dion told her his breakup with Croteau would be official on the same date she disappeared.

A jury delivered the guilty verdict after five days of deliberation. Justice Richard Wagner imposed the life sentence immediately, calling the premeditated murder a crime of great cruelty.
