Since 1991 there are 12 unsolved homicides of women in Alaska. The majority are Aboriginal. Other similarities are pointed out in colour to correspond with similarity.

In April 1991 13 year old Alaskan Aboriginal Shawna Evon was last seen in Anchorage, AK. She was found murdered on June 8, 1991 and was not decomposed so had likely been recently murdered. Shawn was found in an entry way of 529 C Street (now a vacant lot) behind some wooden pallets and she suffered severe trauma.

June 29, 1992 Teresa Stirling's nude body was found on West Northern Lights Blvd. Teresa's body was lying in a ravine in a heavily wooded area just off the main parking lot. Teresa's suffered blunt force trauma. Teresa had last been seen alive about 8:00 p.m. in the Spenard area on June 29, 1992.

Fourty-four year-old Sophie Macar's body was found between a house on 4th Avenue and the American Tire Warehouse off Unga Street on May 24, 1995. Macar had been struck in the face and was found partially nude. She had been strangled and a wooden pallet had been placed on top of her body.

October 7 1997 Doris Ransom, anAboriginal woman, was found in Davis Park in Mt. View and she was sexually assaulted. The cause of death has not been released.

Vera Hapoff was found in Ship Creek on June 8, 1999. She had drown and there were no signs of assault. Police are investigating this death as suspicious. Vera was an Aboriginal woman.

Two months later, on August 8, 1999, Annie Mann, an Aboriginal woman, was found murdered behind a building located at 1924 Post Road. She had been sexually assaulted.

September 26, 1999, six weeks after Michelle Foster Butler was stabbed to death at 10th and Juneau around midnight. Police have not determined if she had been sexually assaulted or engaged in consensual sex prior to her murder. Michelle was African American.

January 11, 2000 Helen Kinegak was found outside of 341 N. Lane in the early morning hours. She died from massive internal injuries.

On March 22, 2000 Genevieve Tetpon was recovered in Arctic Valley, she was stabbed. Police seem to be having a hard time determining if she was raped or engaged in consensual sex. Genevieve as found along the frontage road leading to Arctic Valley. She was Aboriginal.

Discovery of Della Brown's body, found Sept. 2, 2000 galvanized the fear that someone was stalking Aboriginal women. Della was found in a shed near the Channel 11 offices on West 32 Avenue in Spenard area. As with several victims, police have not disclosed the cause of death. Her killing prompted renewed police focus on the five deaths before hers.

On June 18, 2003 Desiree Lekanoff was found in the waters of the Turnagain Arm near Beluga Point near the Oceanview residential subdivision. She was 22 when last seen in December 2001. I have no information on cause of death.

Michelle Rothe's nude body was found September 6, 2003 two months after she was last seen (July 2003). She was recovered from the waters of the Turnagain Arm near the Oceanview residential subdivision. Police believe she was murdered sometime between June and July 2003. Michelle was connected to bars and was an Aboriginal woman.

Cold case detectives are looking for help from the public in solving the homicide of a 16-year-old girl, years ago. The last time she was seen alive was earlier that evening inside Chilkoot Charlies talking to four men. Detectives would like to locate a man known as "Pinkie" who lived in the Kenai area at the time. If you know who "Pinkie" is, or have information regarding the murder of Shelley Connolly, call Crime Stoppers at 561-7867 or submit your tip anonymously using this website

Mindy Schloss' disappearance.

FBI seeks suspect in Alaska  mindy

Print Story | Email Story

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (September 4, 2007, AP) - A man sought for questioning in the case of a missing Anchorage nurse is likely still in Alaska.

That's according to FBI agents, who are seeking 27-year-old Joshua Wade on suspicion of illegally using Mindy Schloss' automatic teller machine card to take a thousand dollars from her bank account.

Schloss has been missing for nearly one month.

Wade lived next to the 52-year-old nurse in South Anchorage.

Wade is well-known to police.

He was acquitted by a jury in 2003 on charges that he raped and beat to death 33-year-old Della Brown, whose body was found in September 2000.

Wade served time in jail for an evidence tampering conviction in that case.

He was released in 2004.

FBI agent Eric Gonzalez says authorities believe Wade is simply holed up somewhere in Alaska.

Gonzalez says authorities hope someone says authorities hope someone calls and turns him in.

Friends of Schloss are offering $5,000 for information leading to her body.

The FBI is offering a $2,500 reward in the case.

I wonder if Israel Keyes could be responsible for any of the Anchorage murders. Except for his time in the Army, he was all over between Alaska and other states. Planned his murders well in advance and didn't have a particular MO as most serial killers do. He was caught on his last murder in Anchorage because he had gotten careless in his haste and need for money. He hung himself in his cell in Dec 2012.
