1927-05-00, GREENO, Fraser - Cheverie, Nova Scotia (missing)
BC Ident:
Fraser Greeno
Date of Disappearance: May, 1927
Location of Disappearance: Cheverie, Nova Scotia, Canada
Age (at time of disappearence): Teenager
Clothing Description: Sweater, cloth cap
Medical: Fraser had a twisted foot and walked with a limp after a bout with polio in early childhood.
Circumstances:
Fraser Greeno left his farmstead on a early morning in May to travel to the Cheverie gypsum quarry where he earned his wage as a waterboy.
Fraser never returned home that night and it was learned he never arrived to work which was out of character for him.
A search was conducted that night by friends and neighbours as they combed the area. Nothing was found. The next morning, the police were called in and a more extensive search was made of the surrounding area as well as the dense wood searched the previous night.
On a woodland path, Fraser's cloth cap was found but there were no signs of blood, hair or shreds of clothing. It was speculated Fraser met with foul play as the wooded area was not populated with very many, if any, dangerous animals.
There has been no sight of Fraser since that day and no human remains have been located.

This is so disturbing BC. I have never heard of this..ever.
I'm embarrassed to admit - of Cheverie, NS either. It's shameful how easily people, and most authorities, just close the book on this type of disappearance.
Do you have any other articles regarding this? I googled but nothing came up...I will keep trying different avenues. I am curious to know what time of year this happened. Was it fall or early winter, when half drunk hunters back then shot at anything that moved? If this was the case, they would probably drag the body off to where it could never possibly be found.
BC Ident:
Hi, sorry about that. I had the date of his disappearance in the title but not in the file. He disappeared in May of 1927. It didn't give me an exact day.
Local gossip from around that time spoke of a man who showed up in Cheverie shortly after Fraser's disappearance. It was alleged the man had heard about the case and spoke of it so much that it made some of the locals uncomfortable. Very little was known of him and he eventually left the area.
You won't find any internet listings on this case. I already tried and got nowhere. Perhaps someone in Nova Scotia will find info on this missing persons case. I could have added it to the unconfirmed missing considering the book was published in 1988 but I thought to myself "if he hadn't been found by 1988 then he is most likely still missing today".
I found the story in a book and the author, Edith Mosher, had researched the local papers and spoke to the surviving residents from that point of time.
I placed the file on Porchlight Canada first but PL Canada doesn't have the traffic yet that Unsolved Canada does. Plus there are more members here to consult.
stony acres:
Since this occurred long before my time < I have no recollection of it. But I have heard my Mother and others from the area speak of it many times. There were lots of different stories going around on what happened (as in any small community) but it seems no one really knew except those involved...and they sure were not going to talk. It does seem strange though as in those days there were not many outsiders around the area. And everyone knew everyone else. So it would have likely been someone who knew Fraser.
openthebox:
Hello, I just found this site and am thrilled! I am working on Porchlight Canada. Right now just working on the "surface stuff" but soon to be doing the catch up (is there really such a thing?) part. Does anyobody know how old FRaser was at the time he disappeared? So sad! So many of these old cases in both countries (The US and Canada) :-[
