Ardeth Wood's killer gets life sentence with no chance of parole for 10 years; Jennifer Teague's accused killer will plead guilty this month, lawyer says

Ardeth Wood and Jennifer Teague became sisters in death: their murders -- two years apart -- visited the same horror and shame upon the City of Ottawa.

Both young women vanished as they conducted the most mundane of acts: a bike ride, a walk home. Their disappearances were followed by frantic searches filled with equal parts hope and dread. Both ended terribly, in a city wilderness, with the discovery of a corpse.

Yesterday, Ardeth Wood and Jennifer Teague again held hands as, improbably, the men accused of killing them made dramatic decisions. One pleaded guilty to killing Ms. Wood and, hours later in the same courtroom, the lawyer for Ms. Teague's alleged killer said his client would plead guilty this month.

I have one thing to say; this man pleaded guilty to one count of 2nd degree murder and numerous other violent charges, all to be served concurrently. He received life with no chance of parole for 10 years. It is horrific to think he could be out in less than 10 years with early release whatever crap that is. If the punitive aspects of Canadian justice say it doesn't matter if you kill one or 101, you can't get more than one maximum sentence. Since this is such a sickening thing maybe we could turn it around and find one positive. If you've killed you get maximum because it doesn't matter if you kill one or 101, you get life with no parole for 25 years. There has to be some fairness in this lousy concurrent system.

My goodness, what is wrong with our system? This means he will get another crack at another victim.

Again, I thought Harper was going to add some spine to the system. What has he done. This is just dumb. He lives in Ottawa too.
