Edmonton Serial Killer / Michael Briscoe in Jail!!!::
« on: October 04, 2008, 03:04:23 PM »
Finally, this guy is in jail where he belongs. He is one of five who killed 13, Nina Courtepatte, at a golf course, along with Joseph Labouca, and another guy named Pyro, and a couple of girls!!

Joseph Laboucan has been charged with the death of Ellie May Myers, a few days previous to the killing of Nina Courtepatte, calling nina, "the Chosen One"

So now the question is, did Briscoe, and others kill Ellie May Myer, and her body found in the Serial Killing Grounds of Sherwood Park, and surrounding areas???

Briscoe, drove the car, helped lure Nina and her friend, he drove to the golf course, and held her down, while she was beaten, and rapedd. He was let go. WHY????  Let's hope he starts talking, as their may be more surprises along the way. Was he there at Ellie's slaying? How about any others?

A man who has been ordered to stand trial a second time in the golf-course slaying of an Edmonton teenager has been remanded in custody.

The judge's order came at Michael Briscoe's first court appearance after the Alberta Court of Appeal ruled earlier this week to overturn his acquittal at his first trial.

Briscoe was found not guilty of first-degree murder, kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault in the death of Nina Courtepatte.

He was one of five people charged in the April 2005 sex slaying of the 13-year-old girl.

Briscoe must find a lawyer and will return to court Nov. 21.

A date for his new trial has not been set.

I decided to put this here. Not only is it a hate crime, but also a sex crime, as the perp did it because the men were gay!!

VANCOUVER -- A 20-year-old Vancouver man faces a charge of assault causing bodily harm in connection with an incident that police are calling a gay bashing.

Michael Kandola is due to appear in court today to face the charge after being released on bail over the weekend. He has not entered a plea.

Jordan Smith says he was holding hands with a man Friday night when the pair were approached by five men.

Smith says they started yelling profanities and gay slurs, and when he walked away, the group pursued.

Smith says he was hit on the head so hard he was knocked unconscious.

His jaw is broken in three places and will be wired shut this week.

Police are recommending that the case be prosecuted as a hate crime, a designation that increases punishment. They say they don't plan on charging anyone else in the incident.

MALONE, N.Y. -- Human remains and clothing have been found in a sand pit where New York state police and Quebec provincial police were searching for evidence into the disappearance of a 28-year-old Quebec woman.

Police ended the search early Saturday morning.

The discovery may lead to a breakthrough into the disappearance of Nathalie Fournier, who has been missing since 2004.

Police say the forensic analysis of the clothing and the remains could take days or even weeks.

Investigators targeted the site after questioning a trucker about unrelated child pornography charges.

State police say 30-year-old Adam Morris of Malone, N.Y., was charged Thursday with promoting a sexual performance by a child.

During that investigation, police say he made statements related Fournier's disappearance.

After questioning Morris, New York state police and Quebec provincial police began searching a sand pit near Morris's home for the remains of Fournier.

She was last seen around 2:30 a.m. Oct. 14, 2004, at La Place A Lorenzo near Saint-Mathieu de La Prairie, Que., where she worked as an exotic dancer.

By MICHELLE THOMPSON, SUN MEDIA

A teenage girl is dead after being attacked by a man on an Edson pathway yesterday afternoon.

"It definitely is being treated as a homicide," RCMP Cpl. Wayne Oakes said, adding about 20 officers are investigating the case.

Cops said the girl, whose name and age were not released by press time, was attacked by a man about 4:45 p.m. on a tree-lined path bordering homes.

Police said two youngsters came upon the attack, which occurred near Willshire Estates and Old Tiffin, and raced to a nearby home for assistance.

After emergency crews tried reviving the girl, she was taken to Edson hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police believe the suspect might have fled the area on an ATV vehicle or another mode of transportation.

Investigators are looking for a white man in his 30s with brown hair. He was wearing a blue jacket and jeans at the time of the attack.

Anyone with information is asked to call Edson RCMP at 780-723-8800.

Or, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Can incarcerated individuals vote???

This may surprise you, but I think "anyone in Canada should be allowed to vote." I may change my mind at any time, but would like to hear the nay sayers! I want to say NO! but I think we need every vote we can get' ???
*******************************************************
WHEN SOMEONE IS CONVICTED OF A SERIOUS CRIME AND IS SENT AWAY TO PRISON, THEY DON'T GET TO VOTE IN THE ELECTION, RIGHT?

Wrong. Anyone older than 18 who's incarcerated in a federal penitentiary is allowed to vote by special ballot in an election or referendum -- even if they committed a serious crime like murder or rape. In 2002, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that denying the vote to prisoners was against the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Before that decision, prisoners serving sentences of two years or longer weren't allowed to cast a ballot.

HEY, BUT I THOUGHT STEPHEN HARPER WAS SUPPOSED TO BE TOUGH ON CRIMINALS. WHY DOES HE ALLOW THEM TO VOTE BEHIND BARS?
***************************************
Harper has said in the past he doesn't think inmates should have the right to vote, and even promised to make a constitutional amendment that would override the Supreme Court ruling during the last election campaign in 2006. But, so far, the Conservatives have not acted on that platform promise.

SO, DO THE POLITICAL CANDIDATES GO INSIDE THE PRISONS TO TRY AND DRUM UP SUPPORT?
********************************************
According to law and correctional policy, each candidate is allowed to go to the institutions in their riding, as long as the visits are approved by the warden based on a security assessment. Candidates can also drop off campaign pamphlets and material for inmates who want to read it. But usually candidates don't go behind the wire, says John Roderick, the campaign manager for Liberal candidate and longtime Kingston, Ont., MP Peter Milliken, who has several institutions in his riding. According to Elections Canada, inmates must vote for the candidates in the riding where they were last a resident.

DO THE PRISONERS GET SPRUNG FOR THE DAY TO GO TO THE LOCAL POLLING STATION?
****************************************
No, they must vote by special advance ballot, which will take place Oct. 3.

AND HOW MANY INMATES ACTUALLY EXERCISE THEIR RIGHT TO VOTE?
*******************************************
According to data collected by Elections Canada, there were 35,314 Canadians in federal and provincial jails eligible to vote in the January 23, 2006 election, and 5,640 federal and 6,773 provincial inmates registered. Of those 12,373 federal and provincial inmates who registered to vote, 11,594 cast ballots.

USA & Other / Chloroform: Found in the Trunk, where Cayley...
« on: September 25, 2008, 02:28:05 PM »

I have been doing some reading, on Choroform. It was found in the trunk where Caylee, may have died. Traces of human decomposition were also found. We have been told it was left over pizza, making that incredible smell. Then it was road kill, or animals, then squirrels.

Ok, what if Casey was used to drugging her daughter, when she went partying. Left her sleeping in the trunk. Maybe, and all this is my speculations, it started with Xanax, as that was mentionned, then Mom, tried chloroform. From what I understand, too much, can cause nausea, vomiting- which in itself will produce phlem, blood, particles, of the inside of a person to be also ejected, onto the blanket, or the inside of the trunk..

Casey was then heard telling someone, the "squirrel", was dead, and may have had a nest(for dramatic affect), and more smell. It was sliding off the dumpster, and the vehicle.

Casey reminds me of a 14 year old teen, just breaking out, and doing some hard partying. Face it, kids, these days, do a hell of a lot more than smoke weed. But Casey was also smoking a lot more weed. Much of it is laced with chemicals to enhance the high, and lose control.Add alcohol, maybe pop a pill, and you got yourself a night of partying with not much re call if any.

Casey already said, if her parents wanted Caylee that bad they could have her, no problem. What made it a problem? Casey already said, she was un able to cope, and wanted to party. The parents, new this!!!! So what happened to Caylee???

The chapter of most relevance is Chapter 2, "Health Effects".  I've
provided a link and some excerpts below, but to sum things up in
regards to your question:

--Drinking 100 ml of chloroform could indeed kill a person
--especially a small woman -- but there's no certainty of this.  Folks
have died from drinking doses as small as 10 ml, but have also
survived after drinking much larger amounts.

--Short of death, drinking that amount of chloroform would make a
person awfully sick, and would attack the liver, probably inducing a
case of toxic hepatitis:  weakness, jaundice, and possible long-term
liver damage. It can also induce a coma.

--Inhalation of chloroform is less likely to be deadly -- especially
if the person is breathing air at the same time -- but death can
occur.

--More likely effects of inhaling chloroform are dizziness, nausea,
disorientation, headache and possible drunken-like behavior.
Longer-term exposure can lead to hallucinations and psychotic
episodes.

Here are some of the more relevant excerpts from the Chapter I mentioned:

http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/toxprofiles/tp6-c2.pdf

Ingestion of chloroform:

Information regarding mortality in humans after oral exposure to
chloroform is limited. In one report, a man died of severe hepatic
injury 9 days after reportedly drinking .6 ounces of chloroform (3,755
mg/kg) (Piersol et al. 1933). He was admitted to a hospital in a deep
coma within 15 minutes of ingestion. This man was also noted to be a
long-time user of chloroform in his occupation and a heavy drinker,
suggesting that damage inflicted by previous use of chloroform and
alcohol over a long period of time may have been contributing factors
in his death. In contrast, a patient who ingested 4 ounces (.2,410
mg/kg) recovered from toxic hepatitis (Schroeder 1965). The recovery
may have been due to better therapeutic handling of the case. Fatal
doses have been reported to be as low as 10 mL (14.8 grams) or 212
mg/kg (Schroeder 1965).

Inhalation of chloroform:

Hepatic Effects. Chloroform-induced hepatotoxicity is one of the major
toxic effects observed in both humans and animals after inhalation
exposure. Increased sulfobromophthalein retention was observed in some
patients exposed to chloroform via anesthesia (exposure 8,000-10,000
ppm), indicating impaired liver function (Smith et al. 1973). Serum
transaminase, cholesterol, total bilirubin, and alkaline phosphatase
levels were not affected. Transient jaundice has also been reported in
one study (Whitaker and Jones 1965), while several earlier studies
report acute hepatic necrosis in women exposed to chloroform via
anesthesia (exact exposure not provided) during childbirth (Lunt 1953;
Royston 1924; Townsend 1939). The effects observed in the women
included jaundice, liver enlargement and tenderness, delirium, coma,
and death.

Neurological Effects The central nervous system is a major target for
chloroform toxicity in humans and in animals. Chloroform was once
widely used as an anesthetic during surgery in humans, but is not
currently used as a surgical inhalant anesthetic in modern-day medical
practice. Levels of 3,000-30,000 ppm were used to induce anesthesia
(Featherstone 1947; Smith et al. 1973; Whitaker and Jones 1965).
Concentrations of .40,000 ppm, if continued for several minutes, could
result in death (Featherstone 1947). To induce anesthesia, increasing
the concentration of chloroform gradually to 25,000 or 30,000 ppm
during the first 2 or 3 minutes with maintenance at much lower levels
was recommended. Concentrations <1,500 ppm are insufficient to induce
anesthesia; concentration of 1,500-2,000 ppm cause light anesthesia
(Goodman and Gilman 1980). Dizziness and vertigo were observed in
humans after exposure to 920 ppm chloroform for 3 minutes; headache
and slight intoxication were observed at higher concentrations
(Lehmann and Hasegawa 1910). Exhaustion was reported in 10 women
exposed to .22 ppm chloroform during intermediateand chronic-duration
occupational exposures (Challen et al. 1958). Chronic exposure to
chloroform concentrations .77 ppm caused exhaustion, lack of
concentration, depression, or irritability in 9 of 10 occupationally
exposed women. A case report of an individual addicted to chloroform
inhalation for .12 years reported psychotic episodes, hallucinations
and delusions, and convulsions

An Edmonton man accused of choking a city prostitute and forcing her to perform a sex act while he captured it on video was found guilty of three charges yesterday.

John Du Chau, 31, visibly paled as Court of Queen's Bench Justice Eric Macklin convicted him of sexual assault, unlawful confinement and attempted choking.

The construction company owner was allowed to remain free on bail pending his Oct. 3 sentencing. Chau has no criminal record. However, he has been charged several times in the past for violent sex attacks on prostitutes in both Edmonton and Calgary.

In each of the earlier cases, Chau either had the charges against him stayed or was acquitted, including two attacks on Edmonton prostitutes in 2001 where the judge found him not guilty but said he remained suspicious.

Macklin rejected defence arguments that identity had not been proven and the victim was not credible.

The 35-year-old victim testified she was picked up in an alley near 118 Avenue and 82 Street by an Asian man in a pickup truck on Aug. 27, 2006, and taken outside city limits.

She told court the man finally pulled over and told her he wanted oral sex, but said he had no money. When she refused and tried to get out of the pickup, he "lunged at me and grabbed my hair."

She testified she fought to get free, but he managed to pull her into the pickup and then flipped her over, sat on her and began to choke her with both hands. She stopped resisting and complied when told to take off her clothes and begin performing oral sex.

The woman testified Chau then pulled out a video camera and began filming the sex act.

She eventually escaped and later went to police.

M?tis get $18M boost from gov't

Students at Kikino Elementary School show off their fiddling skills, a traditional part of M?tis culture.

Students at Kikino Elementary School show off their fiddling skills, a traditional part of M?tis culture.

KIKINO - On the Kikino M?tis Settlement there are no gang signs spray-painted on the stucco, no coffee cups or sandwich wrappers in the tall grass and no kids wandering about on a weekday -- or if there are, they stay out of sight.

Living two families to a house is normal here. But attendance at the community elementary school is 90 per cent, says Principal Laurie Thompson.

On Thursday, M?tis leaders and Alberta Aboriginal Relations Minister Gene Zwozdesky signed an $18-million interim funding agreement for the eight settlements over the next three years.

"That's not enough," says Thompson, "but at least it's a start, and we celebrate that because that's how far we've come."

Alberta's M?tis are descendants of French, Scottish and Norwegian trappers who intermarried with the Cree. Unlike Status Indians, they pay federal and provincial income taxes, but don't pay property taxes. They hold their land in common.

Alberta's M?tis settlements -- initially there were 12 -- were formed in 1938. Four were later dissolved. In 1990, they won an amendment to the Alberta Act writing their existence into law.

Now the 9,000 members in Alberta have a right to self-government, rights to all renewable resources on their 1.25 million acres of land, and the right to charge royalties on the oil and gas on top of those charged by the province.

In 1960, Leona White was the first Kikino member to graduate from Grade 12.

Ten years later, her brother, Floyd Thompson, was the second. Slowly the numbers edged up to average one each year, then three.

Last year, 13 graduated, which is a record, says Laurie Thompson, who is Floyd's daughter. "But I taught that class (in Grade 6). They were 28."

Life in Kikino is a slow struggle upward. The funding announced Thursday will be used to improve the effectiveness of councils on M?tis settlements and increase long-term sustainability.

It's the first step toward a long-term funding arrangement to replace the 17-year agreement signed in 1990.

Funds can be used for training council members and administrators, setting up a M?tis accountability office and for education, community policing and small business development.

The terms of the agreement came after years of negotiations between the M?tis communities and the province.

The goal is to help communities flourish on their own, says Zwozdesky. "Today is a major step in that direction."

You won't find fancy new administration buildings, community halls or recreation centres in Kikino. Those are still decades old, built of painted brown logs. So is the community- owned general store, where the names of those with overdue videos are simply written on the wall -- Claudia Cardinal still has Bring It On, due back last November.

But just down a paved road, the elementary school is bright and well kept, with smart screens replacing blackboards and surround sound for the hearing impaired in every classroom.

Students who bus to Lac La Biche and make it past Grade 12 get post-secondary tuition paid for up to five years.

The community wants to invest in its non-renewable resources, Thompson says. They took in $300,000 this year from their gravel pit and $700,000 in royalties from oil and gas and put it into their $5-million trust fund.

But even with the money saved and earning interest, they need to start developing renewable resources, he says. "There isn't a quarter section that doesn't have a seismic line or well site on it. We need to find a way to replace that." Already they're starting to harvest jack pine forests. And they're investing in tourism -- a buffalo and elk game farm, a rodeo, a campground and cabin resort on the banks of Whitefish Lake.

The cracks in the system show up in housing. M?tis can't get mortgages to build a houses because they don't own the land. Couples and families apply to get houses when they need one, but waits are often three to five years, said administrator Roger Littlechilds. Two years ago, 75 people from the community of 1,200 applied to get houses, but council decided to pay for renovations instead, Littlechilds said.

In the school, 60 of the 100 students are special needs; many have learning disabilities or behaviour problems.

The school introduced M?tis traditional jig and fiddle classes just over a year ago and the kids with the most behavior problems "are the kids that do best at it," Thompson says.

At about 11:06 p.m. on the evening of May 6th, 2005 a farmer tilling a field, near Highway 21 and Township Road 534 east of Edmonton, discovered a female body that appeared to have been dumped, part of a pattern that has become all too familiar to Strathcona RCMP.

Investigators said the body had decomposed but was clothed and had not been burned.

Project KARE, the RCMP-led task force investigating the deaths of women involved in "high-risk lifestyles," was called in.

Ellie-May Meyer

A week after the discovery, police identified the body as that of Ellie-May Meyer, a sex-trade worker who usually worked the area of 118th Ave and 95th Street in Edmonton and was last seen alive on April 1st, 2005.

While withholding cause, police labelled her death a homicde. Investigators estimated she had been in the field where she was found for less than two weeks.

Meyer was the seventh slain sex-trade worker to be found on the city's outskirts since 2002. She had registered with Project KARE in 2003 but was not reported missing.

In the summer of 2004, Meyer was interviewed by a local newspaper in connection with the deaths of Rachel Quinney, 19, Monique Pitre, 30, and Melissa Munch, 23.

Quinney's body was found June 11th, 2004, and Pitre and Munch were found a few days apart in January 2003.

Ironically, Meyer's body was found within just a few kilometres of the three, all in an area northeast of Sherwood Park.

Investigators are still trying to determine the identity of human skeletal remains discovered straddling a tree line and a field in Strathcona County three weeks ago.

RCMP spokesman Const. Wally Henry says tips from the public have slowed down and forensic experts have not determined the sex, age or how long the remains had been in a field near Township Road 542 and Range Road 255, just south of Fort Saskatchewan.

The grisly discovery was made by a farmer working in the field on Aug. 25.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Police released this image of a sex assault suspect. (RCMP photo)

A pervert appears to be slithering through communities west of Edmonton, prompting police to issue a warning about the round-faced creep.

"Given the nature, the extent and how many incidents there were, investigators have been working extremely hard on this," said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Wayne Oakes. "We want to do everything we can to ensure the safety of Albertans, and to ensure this little spree does not continue any further."

Cops say the latest reported sexual assaults happened Monday, when at least six victims in two communities were targeted in a span of a few hours.

Beginning at about 4 p.m., the pervert assaulted at least one woman at a Hinton store. At 4:45, the same man is believed to have tried to lure two teenaged girls into his vehicle. Minutes later, police suspect the same sicko convinced a seven-year-old girl into his vehicle, but she managed to jump out a few moments later.

About 5:45, a man with the same description sexually assaulted two women in the Edson Wal-Mart, 90 km east.

Fifteen minutes later, a vehicle matching the descripion of the truck in the Hinton cases was seen at a gas station at the east end of Edson.

"We can advise that in this set of circumstances, the allegations of these offences did not result in any significant degree of harm," Oakes said. "Any act of sexual assault is not permissible and should not be tolerated."

Police believe the Wal-Mart incidents are connected to the attempted luring of two teen girls, as well as the attempted abduction of the seven-year-old girl in Hinton.

Cops are looking for a white man, about five-foot-five and medium build, with a round face, round glasses and short brown hair. He may have a small goatee. He wore a white T-shirt with a black shirt underneath, and khaki pants.

Cops say the man was driving a dark blue or black 2000 Dodge Dakota with a B.C. licence plate. The truck had a lot of after-market modifications, including a front bush bar with square fog lights, headache rack, hoodscoops, box rails, chrome-plated mud flaps, tube running boards and black rims.

CALGARY -- Disgraced Mountie Guy Armand Raes, who was sentenced Monday to eight months in jail for molesting a wayward teen whom he took under his wing, could be back on the street tomorrow.

Defence counsel Willie de Wit yesterday filed an appeal of the sentence and said he will be seeking bail for his client, hopefully before the end of the week.

"I'm trying to get it in (tomorrow)," de Wit said.

In his brief appeal notice filed at Court of Queen's Bench, de Wit said Raes' sentence was far too harsh.

"The sentence imposed by the learned trial judge is, in all the circumstances of the case, excessive," he wrote as his sole ground of appeal.

The case is being heard in Queen's Bench because Crown prosecutor Craig Krieger proceeded by way of summary conviction instead of by indictment.

The less serious procedure meant Raes faced a maximum jail term of 18 months, instead of the 10 years for indictable sexual assaults.

Raes, 51, pleaded guilty last week to sexual assault in connection with a Feb. 13, 2007, incident in which he fondled the breasts of a 17-year-old girl he had driven to a secluded rural location.

Raes had become a confidant of the teen after she approached him two years earlier about her problems with drugs and alcohol.

Provincial court Judge Barb Veldhuis handed Raes an eight-month jail term, even though de Wit sought a conditional sentence and Krieger proposed a 90-day term.

Veldhuis said Raes' position as a police officer, along with his severe breach of the trust the teen had in him, called for a harsher sentence.

Svekla gets off! Let's hope he does get dangerous offender status! He is one sick, idiot, with a penchant for hurting women; or killing them.He was convicted for the death of Theresa Innes. I believe he did more, and knows other players.  >:(  >:(  >:(

Convicted prostitute killer Thomas Svekla caught a small break yesterday when the Crown withdrew charges of sexual assault and uttering death threats against him.

The 40-year-old ex-mechanic, who is serving a life sentence at the maximum-security Edmonton Institution, had been slated to have a preliminary hearing on the charges.

Instead, Svekla made a brief appearance in docket court, where the Crown indicated it was abandoning the case.

"There was no reasonable likelihood of a conviction based on all the factors," special prosecutor Ashley Finlayson said yesterday.

According to court documents, Svekla allegedly committed a sexual assault on an Edmonton woman and threatened to kill her between Aug. 1, 2002, and June 30, 2004.

Meanwhile, Svekla is due back in Edmonton's provincial court on Sept. 22 for a preliminary hearing on charges of sexual assault and sexual interference.

According to court documents, Svekla allegedly committed a sexual assault on a girl under the age of 14 at or near Edmonton between May 30, 1995, and Dec. 28, 1995.

As well, he allegedly sexually interfered with the same girl by touching her body with his mouth.

It is not known how old the girl, who cannot be identified, was at the time of the alleged offences.

Preliminary hearings are held to determine whether there is enough evidence to be committed to stand trial.

Svekla is also slated to be in court in Peace River on Oct. 10 to learn whether or not the Crown intends to proceed with a dangerous offender application against him.

The notorious killer was convicted by a jury last week on charges of sexual assault and uttering death threats stemming from an Aug. 4, 2005, attack in High Level.

The victim, who cannot be identified, testified Svekla had invited her to his basement suite for drinks.

Once there, he attacked her from behind, grabbed her by her throat and hair and began sexually assaulting her.

The High Level woman also testified Svekla threatened to break her neck and said he would hide her body "where nobody was going to find it."

She then "played dead" and when Svekla turned his back, she ran out of the suite with him chasing her. She testified she was able to escape and went to police.

Svekla is serving a life sentence with no chance of parole for 17 years after being convicted of second-degree murder in June for the slaying of prostitute Theresa Innes, 36.

He was also found guilty of offering an indignity to a body for transporting Innes's wire-bound and wrapped remains in a hockey bag from High Level to his sister Donna's garage in Fort Saskatchewan in 2006.

However, Svekla was acquitted on identical charges in the 2004 death of prostitute Rachel Quinney, 19. Her mutilated, naked body was found by Svekla in a wooded farmer's field near Fort Saskatchewan in June 2004.
