Title: Cheryl Rowe (45)- Missing Dec.22.2012-Richmond Hill- Ontario
Post by: jobo on July 11, 2012, 02:45:28 PM
Cheryl has been missing since December 22/11, but the Police just released this info:

A Richmond Hill woman has been missing for months and police are now offering a $10,000 reward for information about her disappearance.

Cheryl Rowe, 45, went missing just a few days before Christmas. She was last seen by her family on Dec. 22.

York Regional Police believe that Rowe may be a victim of foul play and homicide investigators are handling the case.

Those with information on Rowe’s whereabouts or the persons responsible for her disappearance "may be eligible" for the reward, which police say will remain in effect until Sept 18.

When last seen, Rowe was wearing dark jeans, a blue jacket, purple running shoes and a white baseball cap with a green leaf on it.

Rowe is five feet tall and weighs 125 pounds. She has short, dark-brown hair and brown eyes.

I saw a picture of Cheryl on one of the newsfeeds and it showed her leaning on a counter with a male (?) standing there, but you can't make him out.  I thought she looked relaxed in the picture.
The "green leaf" on her hat was a pot leaf, clearly...the hat was in the pic of her @ a counter,(a store?).

It has taken a while for the Police to become really concerned, I wonder if it is because they recently got a fairly strong tip who Cheryl met up with/talked to that night.  Cheryl has not shown up since she left her home quite late, just after midnight, the article above says.
Thanks for posting the pics, debbiec, the article I posted had a picture but it didn't show up in my post...

I am very certain i have seen Cheryl Rowe's picture before, prior to July, in some kind of media release for her as missing. I will search and see what more info I can find. Even if she seems to have left (home or area) willingly, that of course does not preclude some kind of foul play. Let's hope rather that Cheryl is safe and well, if located in another region.

Actually, soccermom, I remember seeing her picture on my facebook newsfeed earlier on too.   It was either 680news or newstalk1010.

I just realised I will have to change the header on this thread.  I put Mississauga for some strange reason, I should have put Richmond Hill....geesh.  I went to google-map the address and realized they are talking about Yonge St and Carville in Richmond Hill (Toronto) as being the last area Cheryl was seen.

Oh dear....lol...I don't know how to change the header, I can on my post, but not the others, so I am obviously not doing it right......

Well, we don't know about her life circumstances.  If the police are thinking about foul play - then it probably is.
So sad, any which way we look at it!! Missing since December is a very long time.

Cheryl Rowe (45) ............last  seen on..........................."Rathfon Crescent" R.H. - 22/12/2011

Anyone Notice there last seen in same area, same town...both went missing and 19 days apart?
Seems Like a heck of a coincidence....I assume the police must have seen this similarity...?

Here's a recent article from the Toronto Star following up on the story of Cheryl Rowe's disappearance, with some more details about what happened the night she vanished.

Quote
Missing woman’s daughter struggles with questions
Published on Thursday December 27, 2012

Kristina Clark sits on the couch in her apartment, a striped sweater that belongs to a missing woman bunched around her stomach.

Clark, 19, is four months pregnant and her own clothing is too small for her now.

In addition to buying maternity clothes she reluctantly dug through her mother’s abandoned closet, where she knew she’d find things a size larger than she is now.

She likes having some aspect of her mother close by, even if it is just clothing, because she has no idea if she’ll ever see her again.

Kristina’s 45-year-old mother, Cheryl Rowe, vanished a few days before last Christmas — a time of year “she wouldn’t miss for the world,” Clark says.

At this time last year, Rowe was a missing person. Now York Region police say they strongly suspect foul play in her disappearance.

Clark and Rowe had been planning a special holiday dinner for their entire family that Christmas Day, with the plans for guests and food lists stuck to the fridge. But the holiday turned sombre for the Rowe family with presents unopened and dinner ingredients never touched.

Clark woke up Christmas morning, the third day Rowe had been missing, with a sense of doom that hit her as she sat up in bed.

“I knew, no matter what, if my mother was alive, she would have come home for Christmas morning. I knew something was very wrong right then,” Clark says.

Rowe was last seen by her family on Dec. 22, 2011, when she and Clark went to a Walmart in Richmond Hill to buy Christmas presents.

“She loved Christmas shopping but always left it right to the last minute,” Clark said.

Later that night, Clark went to a friend’s house and Rowe was at her brother’s family home.

Clark called her mother to ask if she could meet her on a path near her uncle’s house with some clothing because she was planning to spend the night at a friend’s house in the area. The path was right between both locations.

They spoke briefly on the phone, Clark says, and her mother said she would see her in a few minutes.

Clark showed up but Rowe never came.

That was the last anyone has seen of her, according to her family and York police.

Police offered a $10,000 reward this summer for any information on Rowe’s disappearance and the homicide unit took over the investigation.

There have been no arrests in the case.

Det. Bob Papineau says a group of people have information about the disappearance. He hopes they have the heart to come forward and give the family some closure.

Rowe’s sudden absence is unusual, even for a mother who has had her share of personal problems, Clark says.

Growing up, Rowe was never one to turn down a party but she didn’t let it interfere with motherhood, Clark says.

“She definitely had problems but she was always there for me. She called me a zillion times a day on my cellphone and we told each other everything.”

When Clark was a little girl she used to go to the Galaxy, a restaurant where her mother was a long-time waitress. The regulars would bring her colouring books and crayons, and she’d happily draw through her mother’s shift, waiting for the woman from whom she was inseparable.

Clark says the problems really began when her grandparents died about 10 years ago. Her grandfather was receiving his first cancer treatment at Sunnybrook hospital and her grandmother dropped dead in an elevator on her way to see him.

It wasn’t long before her grandfather died and Rowe was devastated about the loss of her parents.

“They were the glue of the family, they kept everything together. So when they passed, she really felt it,” Clark says.

Rowe descended into a cycle of substance abuse that made Clark grow up fast, she says.

“It was sort of a pattern; she’d get better then something bad would happen, then she’d fall back into it again.”

Clark insists that although Rowe had her issues, she was a caring mother and they spent time together whenever they could.

“She used to take me bowling when I was little, then to movies when I was a bit older and when I was a teenager we used to shop.”

When Clark moved in with her older boyfriend at 16, Rowe fought her on it and was angry she couldn’t win. Slowly, she realized the pair were good together and slowly accepted it, although she never stopped keeping daily tabs on her daughter.

Clark says she began drinking to fill the hole left by her mother.

When she found out she was pregnant and stopped drinking, she crossed an invisible line, the reality hitting that her mother would probably never come back alive.

Clark says she lives in a prison of memories she can’t escape. She thinks about her mother constantly, feels relief when she can sleep and clear her head, but then her mother is there, alive in her dreams. “I’m trying to catch her, but never can,” Clark says.

Her family has set up a Facebook group that is updated daily and she spends time looking at the posts and pictures.

She is most scared of finding out what really happened to her mother. Instead, she tries to think of what Christmas will be like next year with the new baby, and worries if she will learn the fate of her mother by then.

Clark relishes living in suspended time, before a body is possibly found, before clinical questions about how she died are asked.

With Rowe missing, her daughter feels a strange relief that she can’t lose her anymore, as she feared she might as a little girl.

She folds the baby clothes that she’s bought and desperately misses her beautiful, vulnerable and flawed mother.

She admits the holidays will never be the same but hopes she can make them happy for the sake of her child. She wants to make it a special time, as it was for her when she was little, not a date that marks her mother’s disappearance.

“I wish she was here but I’ll try my best,” Clark says.

This thread is only one page long and there is two different scenerios out there.  Something is really wrong with someone's story.

The brother says she left to go to a friend's house.  The daughter says she phoned her and arranged to meet her at the pathway (she needed clothes).  Which story is the truth?
Is there a cottage/land in the family?

Where is Cheryl Rowe?

When a tragedy strikes anywhere, most of us feel a sadness and some empathy. When it strikes close to home and to someone you know, it is even worse.

Where is Cheryl Rowe? I grew up with the Rowe family; they lived just down the road from me. I can recall playing with Randy, Mitch, Joey and Cheryl 0 sometimes, we even had childhood disputes, but we always got over them, and although we were not “best friends,” we were “good friends.”

Today, the Rowe family is hurting very much. Cheryl Rowe was last seen on December 21st, 2011 and her disappearance has been a mystery. York Regional police have now called in the Homicide Squad to investigate her disappearance.  Why they waited so long, no one really knows except them.

I spoke with Mitch last night for about two hours. First time I had talked to him in well over 25 years, but it was like we had just talked yesterday. As can be understood, there is angst, concern, dread for fearing the worse, as well as a love that brothers and sisters have for each other, no matter the circumstances.

And they are my friends, even if I have not seen them in years and years. So I am helping the Rowes by doing what I can to put the word out that something happened in Richmond Hill on December 21st and a family is looking for answers.

Someone knows where Cheryl is. Someone knows what happened to her.  There are people out there who likely have some kind of idea about Cheryl’s whereabouts.  Please come forward and at least think of her family.  And her friends.

Were some of Cheryl's daughter's clothing items found to be missing? If so, that would prove Cheryl took the clothing with her to deliver to her daughter as pre-arranged and could have been abducted on the pathway meeting place.

Right, so what happened to the clothes that Cheryl was supposed to be carrying at the time to her daugher? If they are missing, it's a sign that she headed in the expected direction with them and narrows down the timeframe and the location from which she was abducted.

I think maybe Cheryl was really maybe afraid of the person she was with and she made the excuse to get clothing, so she could possibly get away from the individual. Seeing as she said she would see her daughter in a few minutes and never showed up, something definitely has happened to Cheryl.  I'd say that whomever she ran into, she wasn't going to stay with them and just wanted an out. But it didn't work out for her, I believe she was trying to dodge this individual and tried making a phone call and that was her plan to get away from them.  Maybe I'm too detective minded, unless she was going to a fancy place and needed a dress or something. But it is not stated what kind of clothing she wanted. Did she have a cell phone or were any of her calls checked in the last couple of days.  And it is strange that her and another individual went missing from the same street area, very strange. I do hope they find out what has happened to Cheryl.  :o :o :o :o :o

Police raise reward for info about missing Richmond Hill woman

York Regional Police are hoping a larger reward and a deadline will entice those with information about a Richmond Hill woman’s disappearance to come forward.

At a news conference Monday, police said the York Police Services Board is increasing the reward from $20,000 to $50,000 for information that helps solve the case of Cheryl Rowe’s disappearance.

“We have received numerous Crime Stoppers tips that have helped us identify people who were with Cheryl Rowe the evening of her disappearance,” Det. Bob Papineau said. “We also know that there’s a core group of people that have that direct knowledge about the circumstances of her disappearance.

Rowe disappeared just after midnight on Dec. 22, 2011. The 45-year-old mom was picked up from her brother’s house to go visit friends and was last seen as last seen on Rathfon Crescent in the Yonge Street and Carrville Road area.

Police searched for Rowe in a wooded area near Bayview Avenue and Elgin Mills Road at the time of her disappearance and again several months later in warmer weather, but found no trace of her.

Papineau said Monday police believe Rowe met with foul play.

“We are confident we are on the right track in terms of the people we believe are involved in her disappearance,” he said.

However those believed to have knowledge about the circumstances of her disappearance have so far refused to hand over key pieces of information.

“People have been truthful with us up to a certain point but they’re reluctant to give us those final clues for their reasons,” Papineau said. “We are hoping this reward will entice them to help us.”

The reward offer will be in effect until Jan. 24, 2014 and will not be renewed.

Papineau added the people who know more about Rowe’s disappearance are longtime friends of Rowe’s, people she was with the night she disappeared.

Speaking at the news conference Monday, the woman’s family said the ordeal of her disappearance has been difficult.

“It’s been a long time. It’s been a roller coaster ride to try and figure out what happened to her,” said Joe Rowe, Cheryl Rowe’s brother. “We know people out there that are friends of Cheryl ‘s that know information about what happened to her that night. We’d appreciate it if they would at least come forward to help give us closure to find out where our sister is and what happened to her.”

Standing about five feet tall, Rowe is described as weighing 125 pounds with short, dark-brown hair and brown eyes. When last seen, she was wearing dark-coloured jeans, a light-blue two-toned jacket, purple Adidas running shoes and a white baseball cap with a green leaf on the front.

Police say anyone with information about Rowe’s whereabouts or those responsible for her disappearance may be eligible for the $50,000 reward and are urged to contact the Homicide Unit at 866-876-5423, ext. 7865.

Do these long time friends not have any compassion, any pity for her family? Any feelings whatsoever?

Does it not matter to them, that Cheryl has no place to rest?  No graveside with her name on it?
Well if it doesn't matter, than perhaps it should.

How can you live with yourself with that knowledge?  How can you sleep at night - or even look at your own loved ones in the eye??

This knowledge can  "eat away at you", and can ultimately destroy your sense of humanity and  health over time.

Reading some posts and comments on a Facebook page run by her brother, it seems that he believes the person who picked her up to take her to the Rathfon Crescent residence is involved.  It also appears that the person living at the Rathfon Crescent residence was an ex-boyfriend of hers and he was also involved.

Snively.

Taking the house tour from the facebook, I noticed that the houses are reasonably close to one another.  Since there were a number of people at the house, I wonder if the neighbours heard anything unusual.  Screams or what have you.

I wonder if police were ever called to the home in the past, due to neighbours complaints.Somehow, I pictured a dump in a dumpy neighbourhood.   Far from it! Albeit looks like its' interior has been updated.

I wonder what the house owner did for a living? The fact that the police have offered witness protection says a lot about the home owner..... Yes? No?

I wonder if that post by police with their official seal, really came from them, or was it composed by the site owner?

Within that  post by law enforcement, if it was theirs, the making of threats of accessory to a murder, might discourage anyone to step forward to fill in the rest of that night. It has been six years, and they may feel, they have nothing more to say and will leave it at that.

They have proven successful in keeping the final clues to themselves, and such a threat might make them remain with their lips sealed.

However, if one of them is in trouble with the law for another transgression, then perhaps this person might make a deal.

God Bless her brother and daughter.  Cheryl's facebook is beautiful.
Hopefully,  the people who were at that home,  looked at it.
