Halton Regional Police are seeking the publicís help in locating a missing Burlington man who was last seen at midday on Tuesday (Nov. 22) in downtown Burlington.

Terry Wilkinson, 55, was with a family member and said he was going home but has not been seen or heard from since. Family members say this is out of character and are very concerned for his well-being.

At the time of his disappearance, Wilkinson was driving a 2004 black Pontiac Grand Prix. Police found the car in the Brant Street/Lakeshore Road area.

Wilkinson has no pre-existing medical conditions and is in good health.

He is white, 5-10, 180 lbs., with a medium build and reddish-brown short hair and a receding hairline. He has green eyes, wears glasses and is missing the ring finger on his left hand.

He was last seen wearing a black windbreaker with hoodie and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Burlington Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-634-1831, ext. 2315, the on-duty Burlington Uniform Staff Sergeant at ext. 2310, or Crime Stoppers of Halton at 1-800 222-TIPS (8477), through the Web at www.haltoncrimestoppers.com or by texting Tip201 with your message to 274637(crimes).

i will tell you what i know (from what i have read in the papers and online) is that his car was parked down town (apparently the cops had given him a ticket so i think he was either parked in the street or in a parking garage which is close to where he was seen on video surveillance in the gas station) which is just up the street from where he was seen on video surveillance in a gas station.apparently he was alone in the surveillance.

from what i have read he was visiting with family who lived down town (they don't say what part of Burlington he lives in, so he could possibly be from the 'down town' area)

when i say 'down town' ; if you are not familiar with Burlington, it is  a very small city. our down town area is what we call the water front, its not very big but a lot of people go down there for  the nice restaurants and to walk by the lake. his car was parked near the lake shore area and i have a suspicion that he could be in the lake. apparently the police did a search in the lake for him, but didn't find anything. i hope this helps .

it is not common for people here to go missing.

just wanted to add one more thing i just read that is kind of interesting. he was last seen at noon by his family which he was visiting but he was caught on video surveillance by the camera at the gas station at 7 pm which makes me think he was in the down town area all day, possibly seeing friends? going out for a meal?

It does seem as if no one cares.  I wonder if they ever checked security cams in businesses along the street he took when he left the gas station to where they found the car.  Lots of those cams have street views.  Did they find his ID and phone?  They are not saying much.  Again please keep us updated.  Thank you!

The link that you posted above is from November 30. That is just over a week ago. Police likely don't have anything to say, other than that they are still looking. They may give more detailed information to family members if there is anything to report.

I agree that this is very frustrating.  I to have checked several times a day on every site and "lets find Wilkie"  on face book, no one has updated anything.    If the police or his family would update us then maybe we could help more.  I will keep checking daily until he comes home.

by the way, welcome, cyberechique....I almost responded to that post with questions, but I tend to get too 'nosey'!

fan_2424....It is too hard to remember what the post said, it was on very briefly and then removed.  Someone obviously knows the family's business and wanted to be heard, but then changed their mind....it was something about money ....It isn't really fair for me to try to put words into the poster's mouth, especially since she/he thought twice on what they posted, and removed it.
And I really cannot remember word for word what was said.

Maybe that person will come back on and give some insight on Terry so it might be possible to piece together where he may have gone, or what might have happened to him.

I don't think Terry committed suicide. I have a suspicion that he fell and hit his head and went unconscious or possibly drowned in the cold water. He had been down town visiting friends that day and probably went for a walk in the afternoon. This is what i have thought from the beginning.

I google-mapped the area of the Burlington Lift Bridge and the Beaches area.   If I am correct, Terry was found where there is long piers going out into the lake.  Looks to me like 2 boardwalk type piers where you can walk out quite a way along these walks and then you are just surrounded by big water.

I think this is the location the news is talking about, right, burlingtongirl?   How wide are those walkways?    How bad do the waves get in that area?

Edited to remove google map link, as it didn't work.

Has anyone heard yet on the cause of death, or funeral services?  I know Terry well enough he would not commit suicide, and I still suspect something more happen to him.  I will miss you greatly T.  Prayers to your family this must be very difficult for them, I can only imagine, as this has been very difficult for me just as your friend, what they must be going through.

Sorry for your pain on losing a friend, fan_2424.   The Police do not expect "foul play"....which I suppose is leaving friends like you wondering what really happened.
I wondered if Terry could have fallen in that water by accident, especially if he did walk out on those piers.

Terry may very well have accidentally fallen into the water and drowned. Since there were no witnesses, we will never know.
If he had fallen and hit his head, as suggested, it would show on the autopsy.
No foul play is suspected.
He was discovered December 30th, so I would imagine the obit will be in the papers within the next while.

sorry for the late reply.

yes, jobo you are totally right about the area and i have walked that area many times in my years living here. i have always had the suspicion that he was out for a walk along the beach as many people do around here and slipped on some rocks and fell into the water. those two walk ways are quite wide i would say close to 10 feet wide and there is also a concrete barrier that you can hop over and get closer to the water if you want.

sorry, also forgot as for the waves, i couldn't guess what the waves were like at that particular time of day when he might have fallen in , but as we all know lake ontario can get quite fierce at times and i have seen some huge waves and that particular area is not somewhere most people would be out on a stroll if the waves were huge on that particular day.

Has any one heard anything more about an autopsy?  I have not heard of any funeral arrangements either.  Please let me know if you hear anything.  Knowing Terry he probably did go for a walk but if I remember correctly the weather was mild on the 22nd, please correct me if I am wrong because I am not from that area.  I just cannot believe this has happened.

I have been trying to add the link for the Weather Report for Burlington on November 22/2011, but it doesn't want to work for me when I try to re-open it after posting.   So, I'll just give a run down taken from Environment Canada Website.

At Noon the temperature was 2.6 degrees C.  and the Wind Speed was 39 KPH.
By Suppertime the temperature had gone up to 3.8 degrees C and the Wind Speed was up in the mid to high 40's KPH.

I may have stumbled across his obits.
http://www.canadianobituaries.com/terry-edward-wilkinson-obituary.html

This may or may not be him, but the history and the age seems to fit.
I hope this helps for the posters who knew him and were concerned about his missing.
They would recognize the obituary"s hstory of Terry,  if it is the Terry of  whom they were concerned about.

WILKINSON, Terry Edward -

It is with great sadness that the Wilkinson family announce the passing of their dear husband and father, Terry.

Terry is survived by his wife, Suzanne, his sons, Matthew and Michael and his mother Ruth Croxall of Lindsay, Ontario. Terry was in his 56th year.

Terry was born in the East York area of Toronto. As a teenager, he relocated to Rexdale, Ontario where he attended North Albion Collegiate Institute. During his secondary school years, he excelled at his studies, while participating in a variety of extracurricular activities. Terry was a proud graduate of McMaster University in Hamilton, majoring in political science. He has since enjoyed a distinguished 30 year career in the heavy duty truck parts business, involved in sales, marketing and directing for companies in both Canada and the United States. Terry developed strong friendships and associations with his many 'industry' colleagues.

The Wilkinson family has lived in Burlington since 1987. During that time, Terry coached many different sports at a variety of levels. Football, basketball, hockey and lacrosse were coached with enthusiasm and knowledge. His greatest sport's passion was always baseball. Since the early 90's Terry himself, was a player with the Burlington Vintage Baseball Association. On the field, he was known as 'Wilkie'. He spent countless hours playing, managing and assisting to build the league from the ground up. One of his greatest thrills was to play on Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, N.Y., home of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Suzanne, Matthew and Michael would like to thank their friends and family for their amazing support throughout the past weeks.

A celebration of Terry's life will take place, Sunday January 29, 2012 at the Royal Botanical Gardens on Plains Road in Burlington from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. A sharing of memories will begin at 2:00pm followed by a reception. Please join his family on this occasion.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the 'Terry Wilkinson Education Fund' or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by his family.

'Great love lives on in our hearts forever
