STEWARTSTOWN, N.H. (AP) — Residents of a tiny New Hampshire town are hoping for the safe return of a missing11-year-old girl.

Shannon Towles, who owns a gas station and small market in Stewartstown, said her 13-year-old daughter asked her Wednesday morning if she thought Celina Cass is still alive.

Celina was last seen in her home on Monday night.

Towles says she prays Celina is all right because any other option is unthinkable.

She described Stewartstown as a small town of about 800 people, surrounded by woods and other small towns.

Towles said Celina is a good girl who would not hitchhike or run away from home.

Not sure how popular NG is on this board but this is the first time I heard about this case.  The FBI is now involved and have asked the public and media for help finding Celina.

Celina Cass was last seen in her house at a computer around 9 p.m. Monday and was gone the next morning, authorities said. Police have said that there's no indication she ran away or that someone took her, and there are no signs of a struggle.

FBI joins in search for missing New Hampshire girl
By the CNN Wire Staff
July 28, 2011 6:19 a.m. EDT

(CNN) -- The FBI is assisting local law enforcement in investigating the disappearance of an 11-year-old girl who was last seen Monday night in her northern New Hampshire home, authorities said Wednesday evening.

Helicopters and dogs were brought in to search for Celina Cass on Wednesday, and friends and relatives spent the day putting up posters in and around West Stewartstown, a small, tight-knit town that borders Vermont and is barely a mile from the Canadian border.

"We really want to know that she's OK, that she's safe" family friend Amanda Chapple told CNN affiliate WMUR. "We want her home. We need her home."

Celina was last seen in her room at her computer at about 9 p.m. Monday night, according to police. WMUR reported that her parents told authorities the girl was gone when they went to wake her up Tuesday morning.

Police said there were no signs of struggle, according to local media.

The air and ground search ended Wednesday afternoon without finding any clues. Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said authorities are still treating it as a missing persons case.

"We are marshaling all resources available to us -- state, federal, local, both New Hampshire and Vermont," Young said in a brief news conference Wednesday night. "The goal of this investigation is to bring Celina home safely."

FBI Supervisory Special Agent Kieran Ramsey told reporters that a rapid response team has been deployed and is in "close contact" with behavioral analysts and missing-persons specialists at the bureau's headquarters in Quantico, Virginia.

Friends have set up a Facebook page, "Missing Celina Cass," with one of the fliers serving as a profile picture. According to the flier, Celina is 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs 95 pounds, with long brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink shirt, pink pullover and blue shorts.

As the search for missing 11-year-old Celina Cass enters its fifth day, police are now turning their attentions towards her computer as it has been revealed that her stepfather has a troubled past filled with allegations of criminal behaviour and mental illness.

Celina vanished without a trace from her bedroom on Monday, where she was last seen playing on her computer around 9pm. The next morning she was gone.

Police are desperately searching for her and plan to question everyone in the small town of Stewartstown, New Hampshire, which is just a mile away from the Canadian border.

Last night the stepfather of the shy fifth-grader, Wendell Noyes, said the family were 'grieving' - as a friend issued a statement on their behalf with a direct plea to Celina, saying 'we will not stop searching for you until you are back in our arms'.

It has emerged that Noyes, 47, was involuntarily committed in 2003 after being diagnosed with schizophrenia and arrested for threatening an ex-girlfriend.

According to court records obtained by ABC, the woman said Noyes broke into her home while she and her two children slept, picked up her mattress and slammed it down.

She also told authorities that he threatened to throw her down the stairs.

At the time, Judge Richard Hampe ruled Noyes was incompetent to stand trial, writing that the man's mental illness created 'a potentially serious likelihood of danger to himself and others'.

A forensic examiner said Noyes was a paranoid schizophrenic, who most likely developed the condition while he was in the Air Force.

Celina's family have said that she would never run away from home or leave with a stranger.

Speaking yesterday  from the motel in Canaan, Vermont, where he and Celina's mother are staying, Noyes told the Boston Herald: 'Right now, we’re in the process of grieving.'

At a press conference last night, a friend broke down as she read out a statement on behalf of Celina's family.

She said: 'Our beautiful Celina is a happy child who brings much love and joy into the lives of those who know her. Her safe and speedy return is our sole priority and focus.

We remain hopeful and vigilant and trust in the investigative abilities of the authorities involved. We pray that our little girl is returned home soon.

'We plead for answers and ask if you saw or know anything at all, however insignificant you may think your information is, that you come forward now without hesitation and share it with our investigators.
Troubled past: Celina Cass's stepfather, Wendell Noyes, was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2003

Troubled past: Celina Cass's stepfather, Wendell Noyes, was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2003

'And Celina, if you can hear this now, please know how much we love and we miss you. You are in our thoughts and in our prayers. We will not stop searching for you until you are back in our arms.'

Her disappearance has shaken the small town, with some fearing that she may have been taken out of the country.

State police from New Hampshire and Vermont, along with FBI child abduction specialists and U.S. border patrol, scoured the area Thursday, even sending agents as far as New York and Virginia.

Investigators say they have little to go on, with no signs of an abduction or a struggle but no sign she ran away either.

Jane Young, New Hampshire's assistant attorney general, said they were going to talk to every person in town.

'Every house, every individual in the neighbourhood is being spoken to,' she said.

She added: 'We just continue to look for her with all available assets. We don’t have any evidence at this juncture to indicate that this is a criminal investigation.”

Investigators are painstakingly going through 225 tips, some of which have come from as far away as North Carolina and Illinois.

More than 100 searchers are now involved in the manhunt for the 11-year-old girl, including the FBI and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The town of just 800 people is only a mile from Canada.

So far, this extraordinary effort has turned up nothing..........

The article goes on further but I thought too long to post.
His facebook page gave me the creeps.

Fox News reporter saying red pickup truck belong to Celina's step-brother was removed from the house; some dumpsters removed (apparently there's a restaurant next door); Celina's computer removed from the house.

Judge Jeanine asking about Celina's Facebook account. Reporter saying she probably didn't know who she was approving as friends; account seems to bother him due to her age.

NYC prosecutor guest is saying LE will look at everybody close to Celina; any custody problems, simmering conflicts, etc. Judge Jeanine bringing up step-dad's mental problems and history of violence. Prosecutor saying small percentage of children actually taken by strangers.

Former NYPD detective going over all the possibilities ~ runaway, stranger, somebody at home, etc. At day five, he thinks she's deceased.

Judge Jeanine is talking about the huge amount of LE from various agencies on the case. Guests don't really think she's a runaway, unless she met up with somebody from online.

Judge Jeanine giving phone number for NH State Police (603) 846-3333.

Wonder what the step brother's fb account was like!?

$30K Reward Being Given For Information On Location Of Celina Cassi
Written by Michael Lambarde on Jul 30, 2011 // Category: U.S. Tidbits

The chances of finding an 11-year old girl who has been missing since July 25th have gone up, the FBI hopes. Today, they announced that a reward of $25,000 will given to any person that has information on the whereabouts of a girl by the name of Celina Cass, as well as the arrest of anyone found responsible. The girl in the fifth grade was last seen at 9PM local time at her Stewartstown, New Hampshire home.

The physical appearance of the girl is as follows: She is five feet, five inches tall, has long brown hair, and has hazel eyes. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a pink t-shirt and pink pullover, as well as blue shorts. As well as the $25,000 reward by the FBI, a private citizen has stated that if any information about the location of the ll-year-old is given, they will also offer a $5,000 reward. At a press conference held on Saturday, New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said that they are not looking for a body, but rather they are offering the reward as an extra means of possibly finding the girl.

Her family says that Celina was last seen on the computer before she headed to bed and when she was checked on in the morning, she was gone. According to Today Show contributor Casey Jordan, a criminologist, in most cases like these where a family member goes missing, families come out together to implore the public for help finding the person that has gone missing. In the case of Celina Cassi, they simply have a family spokesperson — which Jordan says may not be anything suspicious as some family members could simply be camera shy or may not feel comfortable in such a situation.

Jordan suggests that perhaps there is a family dynamic that the police is investigating behind the scenes because at one point, there was a yellow tape surrounding the house, something Jordan calls atypical in cases like this. Jordan adds that family members are often called into question and, specifically in this case, her stepfather reportedly has a history of mental issues and domestic violence that may possibly make him a suspect. Celina’s mother has been virtually non-existent in the case. Neither of the two have been publicly called a person of interest at this point, however.

Jordan says another key to finding Jordan is analyzing the computer that Celina was using before she went missing by looking at the websites she viewed in the webpage history and any suspicious contact that she had with others — something that she suggests may only take a few hours with today’s software

Maybe it's just me, but I feel that Celina has sad eyes and looks older than her eleven years.

I don't think they found anything nafarious on her computer (that was her doing anyway).   Is it just me or does everyone automatically jump to the conclusion that when ever a teen goes  missing it must be because they met someone on line??  I find that interesting especially when SD reported last seeing her on her computer.  I think its in hopes of throwing the investigation off as long as they can.  The chances of a teen being lured by someone on line is still pretty rare.  In most cases its a family member or a friend of the family.   I want to believe that our children are becoming more and more aware of the dangers of on line predators and families are monitoring their childrens activity on line these days.  This whole story stinks to high heaven.  There are so many holes in their stories already.  She slept on the couch, she slept downstairs, SD called 911, sister called 911 the aunt called 911???   :-\  ...and I havent even thrown the step brother into the mix yet!

WEST STEWARTSTOWN, N.H. -- The father of missing 11-year-old girl Celina Cass gave a plea for her to return home Sunday in a news conference.
“We are all wondering where my daughter is, and we're hoping the best for her safety. I'd appreciate it if we get her back very soon,” said Adam Laro.

Laro was in the hospital when Cass disappeared, the family said.
“If she hears me now, 'Tell her daddy is OK,'” he said. “Whenever you're ready to come home, Celina, daddy will be here waiting for you.”
Laro also said he was appreciative of law enforcement's efforts in trying to locate his daughter.
Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said they are still searching by air, land and water.
She said an FBI command center has been set up with more rooms and computers.
She said authorities have received 400 leads since the investigation began.
The FBI has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the location of Cass and the arrest and prosecution of a suspect.
A separate $5,000 reward from an anonymous citizen was announced for anyone who can provide information leading to her whereabouts.
Cass was last seen in her home Monday night at 9 p.m. and was not in her bed the next morning, according to her family.

What if step-father stopped taking his meds properly?
 How old is step-brother?

Not taking his meds could cause a psychotic episode but before that would happen it would have been noticed by anyone living with him, and hopefully someone would confront him about it.  It would be a gradual decline.  I don't think his mental illness is his only 'problem' here.  If you can judge someone by their fb account he sounds like a perv to me.  IMO  The whole family seems a bit 'off' if you ask me.

I just heard about the step brother today.  There was a link to a fb account to his name but I dont thnk its been confirmed that it is him.. there is no mention of Celina on it so I'm going to say its not.  I won't post the link cuz I dont think its right to start posting people's fb accounts who may not be who we think they are.   I wonder if the last time someone saw her was really at 9pm??  When was the last time her sister saw her?  She could have been missing the whole day.   This isnt going to have a happy ending I suspect.  I just hope they can find her and make an arrest.

This sounds like a close to home crime, something happened and it sounds like Mariam's case. I mean all of a sudden everyone says they saw her at 9:00 P.M. and then they did not see her anymore. Well something doesn't add up. Where would she go, if she was shy, she would be afraid to go out by herself at night.
Who besides family members saw Celina that day?? Was it just family members saying this or were there others that saw Celina. It sure does not sound very good. I pray for Celina's safe return. :'( :'( :'( :'(

Public speculation spreads in the case of missing girl Celina Cass – The public demands answers on Facebook as they look deeper in step-father’s Facebook page. Step father is not currently a suspect.
 part of the article >>
Wendell Noyes, step-father to missing girl Celina Cass has undergone harsh criticism on Facebook.

Last night on the Nancy Grace show, a panel of experts also brought up what they considered to be odd behavior on Noyes’ Facebook wall. A married man and a step-father, a precursor look at his page shows scores of women dressed in skimpy clothing with activities and interests which include “HOT GIRLS — MEET HOT GIRLS TODAY!” AND THE “FDC – Dating Club” which a place for singles to meet other people. His apparent penchant for women however, does not mean he’s guilty of any crime.

But the public isn’t buying it. Unconfirmed reports from Mock Forums also reveal that Noyes’ may have several convicted sex offenders in his immediate family. Whatever the reason, the police and FBI are keeping most of the details of this case close to the vest and if they have any suspicions about a possible suspect, they aren’t saying.

***I also saw another post by a member of the Noyes family that was suspicious about trouble in the family, I tried to find it again but cannot.  Wendell Noyes facebook page is like an ad page for porno IMO. very creepy

Stepfather of Missing New Hampshire Girl Taken to Hospital

The stepfather of Celina Cass, an 11-year-old girl that has been missing for a week, was taken to the hospital in an ambulance on Monday morning.

Local New Hampshire news station WMUR reported that Wendell Noyes was suffering from "some sort of medical problem" and was taken to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital after being carried to an ambulance on a stretcher. No further details were given.
In 2003, Noyes was forcibly committed to a hospital with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, ABC News reported. ABC obtained court records showing that Noyes has an arrest record for violating a restraining order and threatening his ex-girlfriend.

Celina's biological father, Adam Laro, spoke out for the first time on Sunday, pleading for his daughter's safe return. Laro was reportedly in the hospital when Celina disappeared, but has since been released.

"Whenever you want to come home, Celina, Daddy will be here waiting for you," Laro is quoted as saying by CNN.

Celina Cass was last seen on the evening of July 25 in her West Stewartstown, N.H. home.
WMUR reported that Celina's mother and stepfather told authorities the girl was gone when they went to wake her up the following morning.

The FBI is offering a $25,000 reward for anyone who provides information that leads to Celina's whereabouts or an arrest in her disappearance.  A private citizen has offered an additional $5,000 reward.

"We are still aggressively, aggressively searching and hoping to bring Celina Cass home," FBI Supervisory Special Agent Kieran Ramsay said in a news conference on Saturday.

Authorities have increasingly intensified efforts to locate Celina since her disappearance, and residents of West Stewartstown -- which has a population of about 800 -- have banded together to assist a frantic search for the schoolgirl, who is described as "shy" and unlikely to have run away.

In addition to the FBI, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police joined the search effort last week, and on Friday the Connecticut River was lowered to aid in a helicopter search for evidence of Celina's whereabouts. Divers searched unspecified bodies of water on Sunday.

The home that Celina Cass shares with her mother, sister, and stepfather is a mile from the Canadian border.

The Boston Herald reported that police officers were seen on Wednesday taking photographs of the interior of a red pickup truck parked across the street from Celina's home. Officers moved official vehicles in front of the pickup truck to obstruct media photographers' attempts to capture images.

Celina's mother and stepfather haven't made a statement since their daughter disappeared.

Fox News reported that an Amber Alert hasn't been issued because the circumstances don't meet the state's criteria. "They have to have some specific information they're asking the public to look out for, usually a description of a car, or a license plate number, or something tangible," said Jim Van Dongen, spokesman for the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, who isn't directly involved in the case.

"It just doesn't say, 'be on the lookout.' It's got to be something specific."

Officials told ABC News that the disappearance is still being treated as a missing persons case.

"Every house, every individual in the neighborhood is being spoken to," New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said Thursday.

Those who knew Cassie believe the girl wouldn't have run away.

"She never went anywhere without her mom or sister,"  family friend Rebecca Goodrum told the Boston Herald during a candlelight vigil Wednesday night.

"She is very shy," added Kayla Baglio, 18, who also knew the girl. "If she doesn't know you, she'd look at her sister to see if it was OK to talk to you."

Celina is 5-foot-5 and weighs 95 pounds, with long brown hair and hazel eyes and was last seen wearing a pink shirt, a pink pullover, blue shorts and shoes.

Any information about Celina Cass' whereabouts should be directed to New Hampshire State Police at 603-846-3333.

Dive teams searching the Connecticut River in Vermont in the search for a missing New Hampshire girl are focusing on a specific location in the river.

Crews were searching an area near the Canaan Hydro-Dam as investigators continued to look for clues in the disappearance of 11-year-old Celina Cass, who was last seen in her West Stewartstown, N.H., home on July 25.

At about 10:45 a.m. Monday, a dive team came up from the water, and shortly after, other investigators and Assistant Attorney General Jane Young went to the scene. The media were asked to leave the area.

Roads on the Canaan side of the river have been closed off, blocking the view of the river.

The FBI has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the location of Cass and the arrest and prosecution of a suspect.

A separate $5,000 reward from an anonymous citizen was announced for anyone who can provide information leading to her whereabouts.

There seems to be alot of commotion going on according to reports.  This isn't sounding good.   :'(

This is a very long article so I have not posted it in it's entirety. More can be read at the link for those that are interested.

Unidentified: A female body has been found near Celina Cass' home which is strongly believed to be the missing girl
A female body has reportedly been found at a dam near the home of missing 11-year-old Celina Cass.
Divers began searching the pond which is less than a mile away from her home in Stewartstown earlier today, focusing on the dam that spans the Connecticut River between Stewartstown and Canaan, Vermont.
Though the body has yet to be identified, it is strongly believed to be Celina, who has been missing from her home for a week.
After a dive team searching the river surfaced, investigators blocked off the area and asked reporters to leave.
Several of the 11-year-old's relatives could be seen at her home crying shortly after roads were blocked off and reporters were asked to leave.

Meanwhile, Celina's stepfather was hospitalised after he was said to have taken a 'funny turn' on the driveway of the family home earlier today after talking to reporters.

Wendell Noyes, who was reportedly involuntarily committed to a mental institution and diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2003, was seen repeatedly lying face down and rolling around in the driveway.
He was said to be receiving treatment for his mental illness.

Celina, who lives with her mother and stepfather, was last seen on Monday night playing on her  computer. The next morning, she was gone.
In a news conference yesterday, Celina's biological father, Adam Laro, spoke publicly for the first time, saying: 'Come home. Whenever you are ready to come home, daddy is ready for you.'

Residents described Celina as a sweet, friendly child. One of Celina's best friends, 11-year-old Makayla Riendeau, said Celina loves her mother and likes her stepfather and wouldn't run away.
She said Celina is very athletic, is a stickler about getting her school work done on time and loves having friends over to her house.
Makayla said: 'She's a very good friend, and she never lets anybody down.'

Investigators have knocked on hundreds of doors, and hundreds of fliers with her photo have been put up throughout Stewartstown and nearby communities.
Law enforcement agencies set up a command post at the local school.

Hi everyone. This SF looks like a pervert to me. Just his icky looks make me suspect him. The Step brothers red truck has now been impounded, don;t know much about that but it appears that this is the son of a former boyfriend of the mother who lives with the family. It has been mentioned that he ans Celina are close. i don't watch NG but from what is being said she had the bio father on her show via phone tonight. He said SF was a real nice guy. I only hope LE catches whomever did this to Celina and puts them away for life. Don't know if this state has death penalty for capital murder but wouldn't be surprised. One last thing, if the step father was a racehorse I bet we would lose our money. MOO

(CNN) -- One week after 11-year-old Celina Cass was last seen, her body was found Monday by divers searching the Connecticut River, New Hampshire Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said.

"We have brought Celina home, not the way we wanted to bring her home," Young said early Monday evening.
The girl's father, Adam Laro, said he was heartbroken and grasping for answers after hearing the news.

"I ... can't believe what's gone on," Laro told HLN's "Nancy Grace" show on Monday night. "I have no fingers to point ... I hope there will be some answers, that's what I'm asking."

Young said that the case -- which had been considered a "missing persons" case -- is now being investigated as a "suspicious death." No one has been arrested or named publicly as a suspect in what is now a criminal investigation.

"Based on what we have seen visually, we are treating it as suspicious," the official said.
Celina's body was found around 10:30 a.m. Monday by divers from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department near a hydroelectric plant outside West Stewartstown, New Hampshire, according to the attorney general's office.
Dad remembers Celina Cass as 'loving'

Young described it as a "routine search because of the proximity to (Celina's) home," about one-quarter mile away. The site is also near the Canadian border, where the Connecticut River forms the border between New Hampshire and Vermont.
The discovery came a day after Laro -- who was in the hospital when Celina went missing -- said that he was like others "wondering where my daughter is" and hoping she was safe.

On Monday night, the father thanked all those authorities and residents who had put their time and effort into finding Celina.
He said his memories of his daughter are "beautiful, beautiful, just a wonderful hearted person."
"(She was) someone who was loving and caring to a lot of people," Laro said. "That's how I would like to remember her."
Celina was last seen in her room, at her computer, around 9 p.m. July 25, according to police. CNN affiliate WMUR reported that her parents told authorities the girl was gone when they went to wake her up Tuesday morning.

Since then, local, state and federal investigators had searched for her and for clues about her whereabouts "by air, by land, by water," Young said Sunday evening.

Young said on Monday that authorities, including FBI agents, had received nearly 500 tips prior to finding the girl's body.
She described investigators' focus Monday around Celina's home as "routine," after being asked about yellow crime tape there and the removal of a vehicle. The aim is to "determine if we have any evidence" in place's around where the girl was last seen alive.

Young added that the discovery of the girl's body should help authorities "hone the investigation, so you will (still) see searches conducted in different areas."
An autopsy will be conducted on Celina's body on Tuesday morning in Concord, New Hampshire, said Young. The medical examiner will work to determine the cause of the girl's death.

Celina's father said that he had not spoken with his ex-wife, who lived in the house with the girl's stepfather of about a year, since the girl went missing. He described his ex-wife as a "great mother," and added he had positive interaction with the stepfather.
"(It was) a household that supposedly gave her great love, that's what she always told me," Laro said.

Don't throw things at me but...  what if she committed suicide??  What are the chances?

"The death certificate indicates the cause and manner of death are pending toxicology reports and further investigation," New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Jane Young.

Who would do that to Celina Cass?

Autopsy offers few clues as town copes with girl’s death
By Marie Szaniszlo

STEWARTSTOWN, N.H. — After an autopsy failed to immediately reveal last night how 11-year-old Celina Cass ended up dead in the Connecticut River, residents of this tranquil village near the Canadian border grappled with the jarring possibility of a killer in their midst.

“Whoever did this might be living here,” said Carole Rodrigue, whose grandson went to school with Celina. “I just hope they get the person and he pays for what he did, because she was just an innocent little girl.”

After a nearly weeklong search, dive teams found the missing fifth-grader Monday about a quarter mile from her home. Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said the girl’s death was suspicious because of the condition of the body, but she declined to be specific.

Last night, Young announced an autopsy did not determine the cause or manner of the girl’s death and further study is required, including a toxicology test.

Residents of this town told the Herald yesterday they were hoping the autopsy would shed light on what until this week had seemed unimaginable in this village of 960 people, where it was not uncommon for residents to leave their doors unlocked at night.

“Something really hasn’t added up since we heard about it, but what it is I don’t know,” said Donna Allen, the local librarian. “We were hoping for the best, but we thought the longer she was missing, it would be bad news.”

Johanne Rodrigue said her 10-year-old son went to a nearby park with Celina and her family July 22, the Friday before she vanished.

The following Tuesday, Celina’s 13-year-old sister, Kayla, and a friend came into her shop asking whether she had seen the 11-year-old. That evening, when Rodrigue dropped off food at the Cass home, the girl’s stepfather, Wendell Noyes, told her they had last seen Celina about 9 p.m. the day before on the computer at home, she said.

“My first thought was she had met someone on the Internet,” she said. “They weren’t girls who hung out on the street. They were quiet girls, very respectful.”

The family could not be reached yesterday for comment.

Noyes was taken to a hospital by ambulance Monday after dropping to his knees in the family’s driveway, his face in his hands.

A woman who asked not to be identified said people are heartbroken by Celina’s death but will go forward this Saturday with the 35th annual Stewartstown Day celebration as a “first step toward healing.”

“I still feel safer here than I would in the city, but I used to not think twice about leaving my son for a few hours, and now it’s like, do I even want to do that?” Johanne Rodrigue said. “He said to me, ‘Who would do that to Celina?’ and all I could tell him was, ‘I don’t know. I don’t know.’ ”

Source: Stepfather Of Celina Cass Uncooperative In Investigation

BOSTON (CBS) – A source tells WBZ-TV’s Karen Anderson that Wendell Noyes, the stepfather of Celina Cass, has been questioned by police, and has been uncooperative.

11-year-old Celina Cass was reported missing July 26. Her body was found Monday in the  Connecticut River, about a quarter mile from her home in Stewartstown, New Hampshire.

An autopsy performed Tuesday could not determine a cause of death.

In 2003, Noyes was involuntarily committed to New Hampshire Hospital in Concord after he entered his girlfriend’s house in the middle of the night and threatened to throw her down stairs, according to court documents.

Noyes was taken to the hospital by ambulance Monday for treatment related to his history of mental illness.

Police have not said they have any persons of interest, and no arrests have been made.

*** Is it possible that his mental condition is affecting his ability to cooperate with LE? ......or he not cooperating because he had something to do with this.

Could be either, Trouble.  If he is having an episode he probably can't cooperate until the meds 'even' him out.  He could be having paranoid thoughts... OR, hes guilty and just not cooperating.   :-\  Time will tell.  I wonder about the toxicity reports we are waiting on, do you think she was drugged or doing drugs?

One thing that bothers me about this case is that Celina's body was found in such close proximity to her home. If Celina was abducted by a stranger, one would think that he would want to take her out of the area. Stranger abduction in this case does not seem logical to me if we can believe that she was last seen at her computer at 9:00 pm. Celina was a shy eleven year old child. Why would she have left the house by herself after nine at night? By now I would imagine that police would have checked the computer that Celina was using to see if she had been communicating with someone who may have lured her. Other than her leaving the house on her own we would have to believe that Celina was kidnapped out of her own home. A scenario that could be possible, but less likely.

I'm thinking more along the line of non stranger abduction or possibly, as BellasMom has suggested, suicide.

debbieC, I too think it was not stranger abduction. I believe it is very close to home, the person who committed this crime and I do believe it was a crime. I do not think that Celina would have ventured out in the dark of night to  kill herself, surely doesn't sound like that kind of child. The police will find out what happened here and I think they are on the right track. RIP Celina, gone too soon.

Cass Was Wrapped In Blanket When Found
Stepfather Checked Into Mental Health Facility

UPDATED: 10:27 am EDT August 4, 2011

The body of 11-year-old Celina Cass was wrapped in a blanket when she was found in the Connecticut River on Monday, a source told News 9.

News 9 has also learned that Cass' stepfather, Wendell Noyes, has checked himself into a mental health facility.

Cass was reported missing on July 26, and her body was found Monday in the river about a quarter-mile from her home.

Investigators said autopsy results were pending, and they are waiting for more tests to help determine how Cass died.

State police major crime units from Vermont and New Hampshire returned to Cass' West Stewartstown home around 10 a.m. Wednesday. Several vehicles and the house are sectioned off with police tape, and officers were stationed outside overnight.

The bed of a silver Ford F-150 quad-cab pickup truck at the home was covered with a tarp, and the truck was put on a flatbed tow truck. The truck belongs to Cass' stepfather, officials said.

The house is where Cass' family said they last saw her alive a week ago.

The brother and mother of Cass' stepfather said he is not doing well and asked the media to leave him alone.

******I do not think this was suicide IMO based on her being wrapped in a blanket in the river.

It is quite suspicious that the stepfather fell to his knees (a video of him falling to his knees was on TV). Anyone who saw this falling to his knees, it was not a collapse. Mr. Noyes, bent down like he was about to pray and then laid face down on the pavement. At the time he did this, it was shortly thereafter Celina was found. I would say he knew where she was and that he knew they were finding her right at that moment. All of a sudden he doesn't want the media, I guess he is in hiding from something. We will have to await the police in their investigation of Celina's murder. :( :( :( :( :( :(

Thanks Trouble. Apparently this was not a suicide, based on the fact that Celina was wrapped in a blanket. An earlier report about the autopsy stated that no cause of death had been determined. That would lead me to believe that Celina was not placed in the water when she was alive, but rather as a place to hide her body. It would seem that a cause of death would have been determined if Celina had any physical trauma to her body. That, coupled with the fact that authorities are now waiting on toxicology results makes me wonder if she was drugged. Was this intended to be a sexual assult that went wrong?

And Celina being placed in water, they may not be able to confirm a sexual assault, because DNA would be washed away, this is possibly why the  person placed her body in water.  :o :o :o :o

I dont think she was wrapped in a blanket to conceal her identity. I think she was wrapped in a blanket in a period of shock over what happened and was a "loving" action. The killer could not bear to see her dead eyes staring at him/her as he/she went about the grisly task of getting rid of the body.

Father of Celina Cass seriously ill over daughter's death while neighbour said her home was more like a 'party stable'
Adam Laro bedridden with exhaustion and severe heart problems

Death still being treated as suspicious though no one arrested
Police seized two vehicles - one belonging to her step father

The father of 11-year-old Celina Cass, whose body was found this week, is bedridden with exhaustion and severe heart problems.

The unsolved death of Adam Laro's daughter is said to be 'killing him' while detectives continue to investigate her 'suspicious' death after autopsy results were inconclusive.

Meanwhile a neighbour of the family, who live in the small town of Stewartstown, said Celina's home was more like a 'party stable' with people coming in and out all the time.

Robbie Kimball, the owner of nearby Wayne’s Lanes and Jo’s Grill, said: 'They had people that were in and out of there all the time. It was the get-together hangout.'

Celina went missing from the bedroom of her home almost two weeks ago and a large-scale search was underway until her body was recovered in the Connecticut River on Monday.

According to relatives she will be placed in a pink casket and cremated soon.

Her grandmother, Marcia Laro, told the Boston Herald that Celina's father's health is deteriorating because of her unsolved death.

She said: 'Today was not good. His heart is critical. He was supposed to have open-heart surgery, but he’s too weak for it...His health is very bad.'

Adam Laro suffered congestive heart failure and spent more than a week in a coma prior to Celina’s disappearance the night of July 25.

He left the hospital last week and made a public plea for her return - against doctors’ advice.

I agree that it was someone close and that the blanket will play a large part in this case if it goes to court. As for the SF, I think he has already started building his insanity defense. The police should be able to find some clues on that blanket. Someone owned it and I bet it came from Celina's own house. Mark Furman was on NG and said that there still might be forensic material under her nails even with her being in the water. hope so.

I don't understand why this dwelling is not condemned and torn down, it looks ready to fall down. This must be in a very poor part of the community. I would imagine there would be known sex offenders living in that area. She did have other people around her that would be very suspect to have done something to Celina. She certainly did not kill herself and wrap herself in a blanket. So why are the police saying suspicious, it darn well is a murder. The police should be checking out persons who may live in her area that are sex offenders. Someone could have been watching her and just waiting for the chance to grab her up. :o :o :o :o :o :o

This is a very small town of I think around 700 or so people. The house is pretty bad, almost looks as though it has been burned on the outside. Might have had a fire in the past. I though perhaps either the SF or the young guy that lives there might have brought a friend in at some time and they came back, found Celina perhaps alone and killed her. This was certainly a dysfunctional family.

I do believe that she left the home in the blanket, I dont think she willingly left the house in the night by her choice. I also am suspicious about the step fathers breakdown, though he does have a history of mental illness I still find his driveway melt down to be rather "good" timing. And arent his relatives known pedophiles?

I found this site which has names and pictures of sex offenders alleged to be SF's relatives (brother and uncle?), further down there is a map which shows how close they were to Celina's.
They live on the other side of the river where Celina's body was found I think.

CONCORD, N.H. — New Hampshire investigators hope to have lab results from toxicology tests within two weeks, potentially shedding light on how a missing 11-year-old died.

Lead prosecutor Jane Young said Thursday she anticipates no developments in the Celina Cass case in the immediate future.

Celina was last seen at her Stewartstown home — near the borders of Canada and Vermont — the night of July 25. Her body was recovered from the Connecticut River a week later, about a quarter-mile from her home.

An autopsy failed to determine how she died. Investigators got search warrants to comb her house and family's vehicles for clues.

More than 100 federal and state investigators joined the search for her. Young says a dozen people continue to work on the case full time.

Celina Cass death draws more than a dozen investigators
By KATHRYN MARCHOCKI
New Hampshire Union Leader
Published Aug 12, 2011 at 3:00 am (Updated Aug 11, 2011)

More than a dozen state and federal investigators actively probe the suspicious death of a northern New Hampshire girl whose body was recovered from the Connecticut River Aug. 1 after an extensive seven-day search.

“We are working this case diligently in order to determine the facts and circumstances around her suspicious death,” Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane E. Young said Thursday.

Celina Cass, 11, was last reported seen alive inside the West Stewartstown home she shared with her mother, stepfather and sister on July 25. Divers recovered her body about a half-mile from her home on Aug. 1.

The Medical Examiner’s ruling on cause and manner of her death are pending results of toxicological tests and further criminal investigation.

Prosecutors called her death suspicious based on the condition of the body in and out of the water. Several media have reported the body was wrapped in a blanket when divers found it near a hydroelectric dam.

To date, no one has been taken into custody, Young said.

State police from New Hampshire and Vermont, the FBI, investigators and attorneys with the state Attorney General’s Office, state forensic laboratory technicians and specially-trained computer forensic experts are among those working on the case, Young said.

Investigators have reviewed and categorized an estimated 539 leads received so far on the case, Young said.

“New information continues to come in as recently as the last few hours,” she said.

Young urged anyone with information to contact New Hampshire State Police at Troop F barracks at 603-846-3333.

Toxicological testing on blood samples are being analyzed by a Pennsylvania laboratory. Young said it may be weeks before those tests are complete.

I think all of the family have defriended Wendell on Face Book. I just have to wonder why Louisa brought this man into their lives. I think they just moved over to another small town a few miles away. As for the boarder Kevin, he now has his truck back so I guess there was no forensic evidence there. However Wendell's truck is still being checked by police. I saw two pictures side by side of Kevin and Celina and to me they look more like brother and sister than Celinas bio sister Kayla does. I think there will be more we learn about these people before it is over.

Celina Cass Murder Mystery: Investigators Losing Hope
By IBTimes Staff Reporter | August 17, 2011 12:58 AM EDT

The suspicious death of the 12-year-old New Hampshire girl Celina Cass remains a mystery to the investigators as they haven't been able to follow a potential lead in finding out what exactly happened to her on the night she went missing. Jane Young, lead prosecutor, appeared to have lost hopes. She had said on Thursday that she did not expect any new developments in the Celina Cass case in the immediate future.

The investigators are waiting for the routine toxicology report, which is due in the next couple of weeks.

Celina's body was recovered from the Connecticut River on Aug.1, a week after she was reported missing. As the divers recovered the body, reporters and photographers were asked to leave the scene, but there have been reports which said that the dead body was found wrapped in a blanket.

What Exactly Happened that Night?

Celina was reportedly watching "The Secret Life of An American Teenager" on ABC Family Channel with her mother Louisa Noyes in the living room till 9 p.m. on July 25.  After the show, Louisa Noyes retired, but Celina kept herself engaged on her computer.

According to a Colebrook Chronicle report, Celina shared a bedroom in the basement of the apartment house with her sister Kayla. Celina's mother Louisa Noyes, step-father Wendell Noyes, family friend Kevin Mullaney and Louisa's mother-in-law Tommie Richards were staying with the family on the night on July 25.

Mullaney came home around midnight, who didn't find Celina in the living room. The next morning Richards left to go to her home by 8:15 a.m. and Louisa left the house to go to work in Colebrook. It was Wendell Noyes who went to wake up Celina for her 9 a.m. appointment at a local hairdresser shop, but couldn't find her in her bed. Fifteen minutes later he rang Louisa to tell her that Celina was not found in the house.

Extensive search for Celina began almost immediately, only to discover her dead body near a PSNH dam on the Connecticut River. Celina's stepfather Wendell Noyes was admitted to a mental health facility in Concord a day after Celina's body was found. Noyes is paranoid schizophrenic and has criminal record of attempted assault on his ex-girlfriend.
