Ouellette is now in prison in Renous, N.B., serving a 10-year sentence for assault causing bodily harm. He still has seven years left to serve.

Cpl. Mike Gaudet said in a statement that solving these cold cases can offer families closure in the deaths of their relatives.

"Mr. Ouellette was involved with these two individuals, if you will," Gaudet explained Monday. "[He] was a suspect or was part of the investigation at an earlier stage of the investigations.

"Along with the evidence and along with the further testimony of different witnesses, Mr. Ouellette was found to be the individual responsible for both."

According to the RCMP website, Edgett disappeared on Feb. 23, 1991, off Pacific Junction Road near Moncton on a day when temperatures reached -37 C.

The 25-year-old Moncton man was found three days later lying face down by a snowmobile.
