IHIT, Langley - Charge approved in 2006 Aldergrove Murder, suspect linked to others murders.
File # 2006-16427 2010-03-03 07:00 PST

Langley: The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has received a charge approval in relation to the 2006 murder of 47 year-old Margaret REDFORD in the rural Langley Community of Aldergrove.

On March 1, 2010 nearly 45 months after the murdered body of Margaret REDFORD was discovered in the 27300 block of Fraser Hwy floating in Aldergrove’s Bertrand Creek, Crown Counsel has approved a charge of second degree murder.

Cpl. Dale CARR of IHIT says, “this charge approval demonstrates the continued effort that investigators put into an investigation no matter how old it is. Investigators will scale all obstacles placed in their path in order to advocate for the murder victim, no matter how long it takes”

On March 1, 2010 Thirty-one-year-old Davey Mato BUTORAC of Aldergrove was charged with one count of second degree murder in relation to REDFORD’S murder.

BUTORAC is currently in custody in relation to two other charges of second degree murder in which he was arrested just over two years ago, on January 7, 2008. At that time BUTORAC was charged in connection to the murder of 50-year-old Sheryl Lynn KOROLL of Langley and 46-year-old Gwendolyn Jo Lawton of Abbotsford.

In the fall of 2008 BUTORAC was committed to trial after a preliminary Hearing on the facts of the LAWTON and KOROLL murders. The trial is expected to begin in the first week of May, 2010.

According to Corporal Dale CARR of IHIT, “this charge approval will now put to rest the community’s uncertainty as to who committed this horrible crime nearly 3 ½ years ago”

“I live in this community, I am approached and asked about this investigation by a variety of people in the community on a regular basis. I am very pleased to be able to tell the community that a charge has been laid. Perhaps they can have a sense of relief now that they know someone is being held accountable for Margaret’s murder” says Cpl. Dale CARR of IHIT.
