At 8:35 am, Grant Moffatt drove to Fas Gas outlet at the junction of HWY 5 and PTH 68. Here he purchased a fishing license. Grant was at this location for about 20 minutes. Witnesses said he did not seem to be in any hurry. On August 20, 2006 his white 2005 Chevy Cobalt was found burned out more than 75 kilometres north of Ste. Rose on a remote stretch of HWY 481 about 3 kms west of Crane River. The vehicle had not been reported stolen. His whereabouts are unknown.

Grant lived his whole life in the Forrest area. He is a Charolais breeder, photographer, newsletter editor, youth supporter, and agricultural journalist.
