Another missing senior, just vanishes. This is happening a lot.  Fred if you are out there, please call home.

Mounties are baffled over the disappearance of a northern Alberta senior.

Last seen on Oct. 13, 72-year-old Fred Bert Mitchell is believed to have gone about his usual daily routine of walking into the town of Valleyview before vanishing without a trace. It doesn't appear that he made it back to his Sturgeon Lake home, RCMP said.

"When he leaves his house he puts a big stick up against the door, and that was still there when we went to look around," said Cpl. Kelly Tourand of the Valleyview RCMP.

Often, people would give him rides because he's an elder on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation but he would only take rides from people he knew or from police.

On Oct. 13, he was spotted in Valleyview, 347 km northwest of Edmonton, but hasn't been seen or heard from since.

He was reported missing on Oct. 17.

A ground and aerial search and check with relatives search turned up nothing.

Tourand said Mitchell was afraid of bears and dogs and would not have gone deep into the bush.

He has also not shown signs of dementia, Tourand said.

Foul play is not suspected at this point.

Mitchell was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue nylon fall jacket, brown microfibre shirt, black dress shoes and a Native Pride ball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to call Darlene Desjarlais at 780-552-1071 or Valleyview RCMP at 780-524-3345.
