Hi Robyn, Sorry about your mother, that must be very sad to learn. We only know what you would know off the Edmonton site. Since she was your mother, you can go to the police and request an update and more information.

It does seem like an open investigation so someonw there would be knowledgeable about it.

It is not to late to get solved, sometimes a little preasure from family can make the police give it more attention.

Welcome Robyn.

When you found out about your mom did you happen to hear the dates when she disappearance and when her remains were recovered? These dates help with searches in news archives and so forth. They are on every police report too so this information is very important if hoping to narrow the field for searches for information.

I hope we can help you here. Thank you for posting.

Nancy Gladue is my Great Aunt....I don't know much about her death, all I know is that she was found in a rapeseed field in edmonton June 22 1981. What I want to know is why nothings been done....from what I've heard over the years from family is that they had a suspect, weather this is true or not is hear say. With today's technology if there was a rape kit done, why isn't it being investigated?

Hi Lisa,

I made a whole new thread for Nancy.

I am sorry about your Aunt, thanks for the information.  I agree, they probably do have DNA and it should be checked out. In fact, it would surprise me if they samples have not been sent yet. Sadly, it seems like it can literlly take years to get the results because testing is so underfunded.

Since y'all are relatives of the victims, you can ask the police for an update and get them to check into this for you. I know often the priority is based on who has relatives bugging them everyday.

It would be great if this can be solved, and I do think the police do have a suspect but are short on proof.

Thanks for joining

Here's a link to EPS Homicide Section 2007 Report

http://www.edmontonpolicecommission.com/pdfs/meetings/april2008.pdf

This report shows Nancy Gladue's murder as still unsolved.

Here's a link to a thread where the report is discussed a bit

Robyn and Lisa, I'm sorry to hear this, that at these postings you didn't have any closure. Have you found anything through LE handling the case?

I'm just getting around to reading of older cases.

Desespere, just like the outskirts of eastern Edmonton bordering Sherwood Park and other communities, the northern communities and acreage owners out toward Morinville were also complaining last year of crime on their doorsteps and down the road and I seem to remember that bodies also were dumped there. It's a horrible way to describe, but literally it's true. I think when the heat is on the possible perps they relocate but the MO should still fit some of them that have been caught for other crimes against people. I believe it was one of Svekla's victims that was found near where I live norht of Edmonton and I believe it was the only one of the Edmonton girls found out here, except for one male a few years ago who turned out to be an American fugitive. Some of the cases so little is known and I suppose the LE will keep info close so as not to alert the perp.

Nancy is my Grandmother I was 2 at the time fo her murder and often wondered about her murder and where the police stand in regards to solving it. What is the number to start pressuring someone to continue follow through?

For the heck of it I tried to find Nancy Gladue's death registration on Ancestry.ca and couldn't find anything. I have been able to find articles on other people through this web site. Is there any way that she went by a different name (ie; I am called by my middle name but most people don't know that)? Do you know when she was born?

Thanks

Gather as much info you can from aunts/uncles, other relatives. Like Fraser said, is it possible Nancy may have been a middle name? Check with the RCMP bureau where Nancy was last residing, they should have a file in cold cases. It's good to also post the info on fourms like this as it can jog memories for people perusing through while looking for a loved one. I wish you success.

I think this is an Edmonton police case... therefore contact the Edmonton homicide division and ask questions. familes who big police to reopen cases are more likely to get them to look into it.

This is still an active unsolved case being investigated by EPS.

As of April 2008, the police commission report stated Nancy's name and case as unsolved. The link is above.

For sure the family can call EPS and ask for an update. Print the document out and show the police that the case is still unsolved, it is active and you want answers, an interview, anyone who knew Nancy at the time of her disappearance can re-submit statements. Maybe, since all the time has passed, people will remember more details, or remember something that might have seemed strange at the time but hadn't thought about things in years. Certainly, some things will be forgotten, but people can remember, even after a long time.

I hope Nancy's case is solved soon.

In response to the recovery locations, the changing locations, if we thing in terms of geographical profiling, the changing locations may mean the killer moves around some, living in different areas of the city, thereby creating new hot zones and new direct lines out of the city.

For instance, Nancy was found in a rapeseed field at 162ave and 82street. In 1981 that was a farmers field - but now it is all developed. So at the time, it was 50 blocks from 82 street and 118 ave, which is a current location, close to where many current missing and murdered women were seen, hung out or worked.

In 1981, maybe the killer lived in the 82 str and 118 ave area. Does any family member remember where in the city of Edmonton Nancy Gladue was living when she was murdered?

I talk to mom about this case and she mentioned a man's name, which I can't recall at the moment..my mom did say that the man was questioned..and nothing came of it she said. My mom believes the man that did this to her, she was dating him or seeing him.
