Annie Yassie | Churchill MB | Missing | June 22nd, 1974
« on: December 28, 2007, 12:02:23 AM »
On June 26th, 1974 the Churchill RCMP Detachment received a report that Annie Yassie was missing. Annie Yassie was last seen by a taxi cab driver on June 22nd, 1974. At that time she was in the company of a male friend. An extensive search of the area was done by foot, by air and with the service of the Police dog was used, however all efforts met with negative results. Annie Yassie was described at the time of her disappearance as 13 years old, approximately 5?4 and 104 lbs with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing brown shoes with a 3" heel, Blue denim jacket and blue jeans. Annie Yassie disappeared 5 days after a local woman Susan Assin also went missing.

She disappeared 5 days after Susan Assin was found stabbed to death.
Found 14.8 kilometers north of Hwy. #17 just off Jones Road near Dryed now the City of Kenora
Last seen by family was visiting from Grassy Narrows First Nation Territory

I can't get directions from Kenora to Churchill ??
But Churchill is way, way north and Kenora is a couple of hours from Winnipeg.

To get to Churchhill you need to take a train or fly, there is no road. So check directions to Thompson, MB and most likely they hopped the train unless it was a local.

It's 972km to Thompson from Kenora. If it wasn't a local maybe the airlines could have shed some light. A taxi driver in Churchill, how many could there have been in 1974 in Churchill? It doesn't say if the male acquaintance was cleared.

It may be me, but does it not seem that when the police mention other people in missing persons or unsolved cases it seems they are almost 'suggesting' something? I think the police do have a hunch that male companion (not friend, lover, boyfriend, husband, co-worker etc) is involved.

Otherwise they would have said 'last seen by a friend of hers at noon', the way it is written says something.

I agree, much can be gleaned from the wording of these releases, which I'm sure are very carefully worded and put together. The absence of information also says something.

It is a very isolated town and i feel the same that it was likely someone she knew or that person she was last seen with. The site this is from even states "foul play suspected" so that is right on Chris, that they know who did it perhaps but have never been able to gather the evidence to arrest him. I do not remember if i listed this site or not but this is a good "trend" by police to have these websites in my opinion. Of course the better and more hoped for trend would be to SOLVE them, but this is apart of that we can hope.We all must continue to raise awareness on these boards and in real life.

I like the Winnipeg site the best. They list all cases and in an easy to find and read format. I wish all police had it that way. Arizonas silent witness is good too.
